;) Tribal Flames? Checkers? Not that there's any thing wrong with flames or checkers. It seems that builders are pumping out orange and black boats as fast as they can. In 10 years will we look back at orange and black boats and say wow that is so 2014. If nothing else these boats will be very popular around Halloween. ;)

BTW, they are beautiful boats and I would kill to own one...just maybe in red and white.

I've seen a handfull of Dominator boats in orange this season alone. They look great but they will date themselves like all the other decades.
80's=browns, orange and yellows
90's=purple, teals, pinks and checkers
2000's brought the flames
2010's we get oranges back.

My 86 was originally all the browns, beiges, and blacks. Before I was into boating in my early teens, my buddies dad's new suburban had all kinds of teal and pink striping on it. I asked why it was all gay'd up. My buddy explains, "He had it painted to match his eliminator." I replied, "Why didn't you have the eliminator painted to match the white suburban?" I didn't understand back then. :happy: Hate to admit it, if I ever have all the excess money, I will have my slammed 90's chevy dually with a phantom grill, roll pan, and a little pin stripe because even back then, I knew that was the coolest shit on the block.

It's a design thing.

People choose colors based on what they have seen on other boats and or vehicles.

For example the bottom photo you posted is a copy of the design on Bob Bulls MTI. Customer sees that and says hey I like that or a car manufacturer builds a Lambo. Then people say yeah those colors are bad azz. They forget about choosing colors that are timeless rather they pick colors and designs that are fad or popular for the moment.

In gel color schemes are really hard because that is what you are stuck with for the life of the boat. Whereas paint you can sand it down and re-paint at your leisure. Gel is more durable and harder to scratch. Paint is easy to scratch [don't I know it] but the [three D] effects you get with paint are amazing. The fades drop shadowing in a great paint job are absolutely stunning.

If anyone is worried about picking color and design then they should probably opt for a white boat.

I think green is going to be the next color of choice. Oh and the tuxedo black and white is always a timeless choice.

Great topic! I always wonder why people choose to copy rather than come up with a graphic design that is suited to their personality or tastes.

P.S. As for beaching.... my hull bottom is white but I rarely ever beach my boat. I stern tie off to a sandbar and anchor the front.
