View Full Version : Living in Parker (part time)

I'm seriously thinking of living in Parker part time. Things in my life have changed that will allow me to do this. But that isn't the primary reason.

I have a office in Goodyear Az and Vegas for my primary business. I've neglected these areas for too long and business in Ca is really slowing down.

In the past I would do 1 or 2 nights in Vegas or Az. Not nearly long enough to be effective. Parker is pretty central to So Nevada and the Phoenix area. Both are less than 3hrs away.

I don't see a downside. Bueller?

I know you already have your place on the Cali side of river, but I agree with Paul it would probably make better financial sense to make AZ or NV your base.

Wasn't really looking at this from a tax perspective at this point. You gotta have profits to pay taxes, so first things first.

We are already employers and tax payers in Nevada and Arizona, so when the times comes I will domicile in Nv. Hotboat.com is already a Nevada Company.

For now thinking more of logistics to cover the So. Nevada and Western Arizona areas.

We do a lot of work for APS, NV Energy, TEP, Sempra and a few others all within a few hours of Earp. Just seems to make sense if I spent 1-2 weeks a month in that area vs trying to set up meetings in a night or two. Eventually I see us moving company HQ out of California. Just an unfriendly State to do business in unless you're a stripmall, coffee shop, or medical marijuana farmer LOL

I just don't see a downside really. I haven't mentioned the water benefits, but that should be obvious :D

I would pay you to watch my shit. Beer payments ok?:wink_002:

In all seriousness it sounds good right now. But will the fun of going to the river wear off if you make it "home"? I have ofter considered about moving and how cool it would be to live there, but I was always afraid I would get burned out and then I would see the river as "boring"... IDK, just something to consider.

"Going" to the river always gives me something to look forward to. Hard to motivate yourself so you can go if you are already there.......

It was good to see you over the weekend BTW.

I di agree that there is no longer the anticipation of getting here but you also don't have a 4-5 hour stint getting here either.....as long as you are able to make a new circle of friends that live here as well as maintain the friendships with your old friends it seems to work.......the first year was hard for sure but we did have the same advantage that you have Vic and that was that we had been coming here for a long time and had already built some relationships out here......the only thing tough for me was full retirement which is why I am now doing Real Estate.....way better than doing nothing :D

Paul, I'd guess you'd miss the coastal atmosphere and then anticipate going to the beach....as us coastal dwellers anticipate going to the river.

Vic, from the first day we were in Cali a few weeks ago my FIL started doing some MAJOR arm twisting, telling us that he would buy the house immediately behind him (its for sale AND it's very very nice).

After a few days I was asking myself "WHY would I move here when everyone I know in Cali is looking for a way to move OUT of Cali"...

I think living in somewhere like Parker / Havi / Needles area would be KICK ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The financial benefits would have to be large...

I see NO downside...

I like unusual architecture and for a midwest guy, the idea of building a traditional looking adobe block type home is interesting to me...

I really liked the homes in parker of the father/son street rod builder guys (the dads place is on the river)... I can't come up with their name at the moment (BIG shop in the back where he builds street rods/customs)...

2Forcefuls casa build was bad azzzzzzzzzzzzz IMHO...

you may need a bigger casa if you live there but when everyone says lets go to the river you are already there and when the dreaded packing to come home comes, you can wish all a safe trip but you may want to get a place on the AZ side so you can legally register your toys and cars among other things..............:goodluck:in your choice

Are Nevada corps still a good pick, I know that it used to be the shizzy with regard to taxes and other benefits???

I know Bahama corps or Grand Cayman are tops for people trying to really fly under the radar now IF your willing/brave enuff to move $$$ offshore...

I would do the move if I could right NOW !! , but will have to wait a few more years until the kids go off to college.

Though the wheels are in motion if we were to make move sooner than later.

My wife loves her new home in Havasu and did mention just this morning that she misses waking up with the view of the Lake, I replied we could leave right now, she just laughed

Parker would be tough for me it's always been struggling as far as amenities, stores & services go, other than that I would never grow tired of the river itself, but try it for six months.

X2. We go down to Parker for two months in the fall and two months in the spring. After two months, we're definitely ready to go back to AK. Other than boating on the river (2-3 days a week) and off-roading, there's not that much to do. We're not gamblers or smokers so the casino is pretty much out for us. It is nice get together with friends in Parker. We got a place in Parker as we got tired of getting blown off the lake in Havasu. Parker is centrally located from Phoenix and Vegas.
