This started out as building something to cover the ugly pool equipment. Needless to say it snowballed into something different. Started today with just framing and making the top

]The bar is getting wrapped in 1" bamboo. The bar top is gonna be out of resin. I'm laying out some weaved Palm leaves and doing a resin pour over the top. Should be interesting as I've never done it. Then it'll have a thatch roof.

Here is where it'll be. It's on wheels too so I can move it easily.

It is tall. I didn't think about it till after I framed it up. The bamboo roll is 4ft so that's how high I built it.

4 feet isn't too high...for normal people.

Got the inlay cut and layed out on the top. Waiting on the resin to show up to pour over it. Hopefully get that done later this week so I can install the bamboo around it and build the thatch roof.

How thick will the resin top be?

Probably somewhere around 1/4-1/2" thick. It just depends how far the resin I bought will go. If I have enough to fill it to the top of the bordering I think I may do that so that water will run off being it'll be outside.

That's what I was wondering. Not that it rains in Ca anymore :D

I wanted to leave a small ridge similar to a real bar to keep drinks from sliding off or something but was worried about standing water staining the resin top. I'll figure it out once the resin shows up and we start pouring it on. Not sure how this is gonna turn out being it's my first time attempting this.

If your drink slides off the bar, in most bars, you'll be asked to close out and leave :D

Fill it to the top. No standing water and it'll be easier to clean.

Small notches, kinda dental molding style. Leave a lip to keep drinks in place, leave a drain for water... win win.

Not always. Spilling your drink on your white shirt is encouraged.

So let me get this straight. You're building this to cover the ugly pool equipment yet when visitors come over you'll move it to a different location to use it as a bar? :D:D

You're missing the goal...it's to make the wife happy...everything else is secondary. ;)

Bars almost done. Had to trash the resin top deal. I made it and it turned out good. Let it sit over night and woke up the next morning and for some reason it split in 3 pieces. Not sure what happened. So I just made up a nice plywood top and put a bunch of coats of varathane on it. All that's left is to finish the thatch roof.
