View Full Version : What to do with this?

With my Dad passing last week, I find myself the proud owner of a 1986 GMC Suburban. While I might be able to smog it, I'm looking for other options for it. Even if I CAN smog it, a 3/4 ton (8 lug wheels) 2x with a 454 isn't worth much. While the drivetrain is in great condition, I really just want it gone.
One possibility is yank the 454 and stuff it in a engine-less boat, sell the TH400 and send the rest to Ecology.
What would YOU do to get the most out of this beast for the least effort?

How about a few redneck "hold my beer and watch this" kind of YouTube videos? :D:D

You won't have any trouble if you sell it in AZ....anywhere but PHX or Tucson.

The second good thing about selling it here is that a private party transaction is tax free between individuals......maybe an ad in the Mohave county CL might bring you some action.

Thought about that, just not looking forward to burning shy of 30 gallons to get it out there. Well, that and the tags are expired.

Maybe post an ad in AZ that says pickup in CA? Lol. Could make a good launch vehicle for someone at the lake or river.

I'm sure even with the smog issue you would get some interested parties locally at the right price.

Best of luck

How much would you sell the whole thing for? I could leave it at my river house as a boat puller. Just drive the car back and forth! And no smog in Parker

If someone's going to title it in AZ, all they need to do is get a 1 day transport tag (or whatever DMV calls them) and drive it to AZ. I'm only looking to get $1500 out of it. 9 passenger with a nice interior, good 454/TH400, BRAND NEW 16.5 tires, and near new frt pads and rotors. Needs paint, but what Burb in AZ doesn't?

Or they could simply take the CA title to the AZ MVD (not DMV :D) office and they will register it and give you the plates....then take the plates to the car and drive it home....just sayin'

No need for AZ DL, we did it even with a CDL....as long as you have an AZ address it was all we needed.

Could be an issue but I'm guessing you could probably talk your way through it if you explain that you're taking the car to your home in AZ where the car will be permanently based. You would of course have to explain that you just purchased it (which would be borne out by the title) and are in the process of taking it to AZ where it will remain. A jerk could be a problem but the reality is the reality. If the car is to remain in AZ it is required to be licensed in that state, yada, yada, yada.....and of course you better be headed east when pulled over :D

Of course if you get pulled over by Barney Fife then you're going to have to write a letter to explain but in the end you will be fine.......just ask Joker, he gets pulled over for this shit all the time :hilarious:

Swap the plates out with a registered car so at least you have the correct tags showing then drive in the middle of the night. Just roll the dice

Pondering the idea of " What to do with this"
My idea paint in large bold rainbow colors "NASCAR SUCK"
Run that puppy through the south with a GoPro camera attached on board then throw it up on YouTube for all the world to see.
ps carry body armor and a gun, just sayin
