Well we made it. First time I've personally been to Lake Perris, driven by it 100 times. Gotta say, its pretty nice out here. Feels like you're completely isolated from the world. The lake itself is much larger than I thought and the water actually looks pretty nice.

We're early for the POPRA guys, so we're hanging out at Sail Cove checking out the jet skis.

Here are the POPRA guys. I'm kinda excited to check out this race. Last time I saw the POPRA guys was at Bayfair 2012.

More pics as soon as the actions starts. Come on out, should be a nice day.

I've got a few things to do around here. Plus I usually start feeling sick in the afternoon so I didn't want it to hit me out there.

Cool thread but I never would of found it if Kate wouldn't of told me about it. I need to venture out of the sandbar I guess.

Did you tell them they're 5 lbs away from fitting in their Hotboat t-shirts as well?

I'm not going to lie, this event needs a lot of shoring up before it will draw sizable crowd. In defense of the organizers, break downs are hard to anticipate. I also heard other boats who promised to show, did not show. Two boats finished. Several others broke or had mechanical issues.

I will say this, for my first ever visit to Lake Perris, I was pleasantly surprised. Its actually a pretty large body of water. And the areas surrounding the lake appeared to be very clean and almost inviting (if you wanted to take a swim). The water itself looked pretty clean. Much cleaner than a few of the lakes we currently visited. The spectator areas are vast and the SRA people didn't seem to bother anyone about where they parked or what they were doing.

This event has a lot of potential. This was the first annual, so I really look forward to the 2nd annual. With more racers/participants, this event has a lot to look forward to. Kudos to the P.O.P.R.A. people and SCCA for putting this together and making a very good attempt at it. Again, no one can anticipate breakdowns and/or mechanical issues, so I think this will be less of a issue in the future.

This lake has potential. Mix in some GN's, K's and maybe fuelers and other classes and you'll have a helluva event.

Some pics from Saturday. Enjoy.

I agree. It has a lot of potential. It's always difficult the first go around. I had a great time, it was nice and relaxing.

Think you for the hospitality!

Great pictures! That lens you have is heavy.

Great pics!
How many boats showed?
Was the race based on laps or timed?

Yes, definitely has the potential otherwise I wouldn't have done it. Appreciate the support as always! Yes, a lot of boats said they were in but seemed to vanish the week of the race for one reason or another. I'm not upset, it's racing and if I didn't think it was worth saving I wouldn't have gotten involved but it's definitely going to be an undertaking. My hope is that we get enough committed boats for the planned Desert Storm Gran Prix after the "shoot out" on Saturday, April 26th.

Nick, it was a lap event- we had two courses one that was approx. 5 1/3 mile (around the island) and one in front of the island (small course 4.4 miles). Because we ran P classes we based the amount of laps (both big course and small course - which could be run in no particular order but had to run the prescribed laps on the different courses) on speed of the boats in the different P classes.

Lake Perris Grand Prix Course

POPRA Long Lap (Red) 5.3 miles
POPRA Short Lap (Yellow) 4.4 miles
Class Long Lap Short Lap Miles
Spec’ 11 2 67.1
P-1 10 2 61.8
P-2 9 2 56.5
P-3 8 2 51.2
P-4 7 2 45.9
P-5 5 3 39.7
P-6 4 3 34.4
