I found the post great. A site must take a hard stance of "if you don't like it or leave" when it comes to the posting of pornographic images, which he did. Be within the rules and life is pretty simple when it comes to forums. I'd like this forum to remain which is why I found the post doing its job.

First of all, I appreciate your feedback. And I assure you, you will not be banned nor will this thread get deleted. I do not like deleting threads. I will lock them down if necessary, but rarely will a thread get deleted. Mods cannot delete, they can only hide them.

I guess this whole Grads ordeal may be coming to a head. I'll go on record again and say that personally I like Grads. But I cannot let Grads continue to do what he's been doing. He knows what he can't post, yet he continues to do so. I have been a supporter of him for a long time, but the members are getting fed up. And now he's keeping the mods up late. Mods do not get paid, they're volunteers and I appreciate their help. So it upsets me that someone has to stay up late on Grads watch.

Admin2's statement was not directed at the membership as a whole, it was pointed directly at Grads. I really do think Grads needs to take a step back and re-evaluate what it is he wants to do on these boating sites. Most of the time he is a good contributor. He posts boating content and other pretty interesting stories, but almost on a regular basis now, he's goes off kilter. I've been kind of ignoring some of the comments and PM's I receive about Grads. Most of the people who comment rarely post. I need to consider the fact that maybe they don't post because of Grads.

HB has come a long way from the ashes it once was a couple years ago. In just a little over a year we have grown to almost 5,000 members. We're doing our best to sponsor and contribute to the boating community as best we can. We're also doing our best to bring you, our members, as much boating content as we can considering the fact that we have no budget LOL.

Admin2 has requested to remain anonymous. I will continue to respect their wishes. Admin has been here since day one, ironically no one seems concerned about his true identity. Personally I don't see it as a big deal, and I need all the help I can get.

Hopefully you understand our position and will continue to contribute to the site.

Thank you,
HB

This one's not a "catch 22" it's a "catch 44."

First and foremost, it's their sandbox and we are all guests --- Invited guests that they have every right to un-invite at their discretion.
That being said, they then trust a third-party to administer the affairs of their site as moderator/administrator and turn over trust to said third-party who may not share 100% of the owner's values/beliefs/attitudes and who may get caught up in personal issues with members. I've seen sites lose a majority of their membership just for allowing the "wrong" person to act as moderator or administrator. Forum rules are very tough to decide upon but they are even tougher to enforce because no matter what rule you adopt, there will always be "certain" members who always seem to tread on the thin ice of breaking forum rules.

I'm glad I don't have to do it. I've read the posts of hundreds of people I would ban just for their stupidity, much less their abuses of the rules or other members.

But I do love a good burger . . . :D

Will go back and read again. Although not even I know who Admin2 is, I doubt he/she is a new member to the site. Probably knows history and the need for certain "Internet tones" in certain situations.

Doc I hope that's not the feeling around here. I don't like to think of this place as my sand box. This place was built for you, the members, not for the owners. That being said on occasion when someone takes a poop in the sandbox it has the be cleaned up. Rules are made to be broken, that's why we don't have a laundry list of SOP's or RnR's. Just a few very basic rules we want people to be aware of and follow so as not to poop in everyone's sand. A couple of the mods are regular members. We entrust them to enforce the rules. Based on the events that occurred last night, Admin2 took a very reasonable approach to the offense. I was the one who banned Grads today, after I gathered the facts. So I saw no personal conflict here, just the opposite.

I was speaking in forum generalities. I'm still here because I enjoy the dialogue and find it enjoyable and entertaining. I have not even logged on to my account in two other boat sites for the reasons I've stated. I'm aware that I am an acceptable loss in any forum and, as a result, I behave myself accordingly.

Truth be told, I was told the old Hotboat was a trainwreck and when this site came on line I registered in an effort to help this site become what it could be - an excellent resource and outlet for avid boaters. To date, it has continued to grow into just that and I appreciate my membership here. :D

As for the other two boating sites, one has a crotchety old hemorrhoid moderator that has personally decided to pick and choose who he likes and what he wants people to say while the other sandbox is so full of crap it has become completely "Brown" and it's beyond the point of finding any sand in there. Not worth cleaning out any more. :D

Ok gotcha. I appreciate the feedback. We really are trying to make this a more enjoyable place for people to gather.

I really enjoy my time on hotboat.com or I wouldn't spend so much time here. I understand the concept of a "membership" and the value members have to Hotboat. However, I treat this place like I'm a guest and I follow rules. I don't abide by the concept of asking for forgiveness, so when in doubt, I always ask for permission. Albeit, I don't always get my desired response, I respect the decision makers.

It's a tough call to make sometimes. Thanks for doing a great job. I know I would hate to be a moderator.

Back to the MEAT of this thread....

The best burger around BY FAR - Helvetia Tavern Cheeseburger

http://www.artistsimageresource.net/blog/2008/2008-01-08helvetia2.jpg

Set in a bucolic landscape with rolling hills and babbling brooks across a winding road from a donkey farm, Helvetia Tavern is two miles north of U.S. 26 in Hillsboro, Oregon. -- but feels like it could be a thousand miles away.

That cheeseburger is about as close to burger perfection as you can find: a soft sesame-seed bun, a thin burger patty with light char and a hint of pink inside (harder than it looks with thinner patties), melted American cheese, thinly sliced tomato, onions, shredded iceberg, tangy mayo and plenty of sliced pickles on the side.

A tavern has stood in this red building since at least 1946. The current owner, Mike Lampros, bought it from his parents, Nick and Mary, a few years ago. The trucker hats famously pinned to the tavern's ceiling aren't going anywhere.

My favorite Burger really depends on the day and my mood.

For an everyday burger I like Whataburger if I am in Texas or the South. In AZ not so much. I think Houstons has one of the best burgers.

As for the Grads part of the Burger question. How can anyone be surprised. Grads is Grads. Honestly HB mods gave the guy so much leeway he was screaming to be disciplined. He got what he wanted.

Very much the same think with Thimself or whatever BnB name was.

I will say this about Admins. If an admin wants to remain anonymous and I can see many good reasons for doing so, then they they should not have opinions. No one should know anything about them. Now if you want us to know about you i.e. what burger you like than you should be know.

Just my opinion.

It's more of a signature than anything. I've been on several forums since the advent of the Internet and have always chosen to type in red. All my e-mails, business and personal are in red as well. Sorry for the offense. None is intended, nor ever has been. My daughter lives next to you in Rancho Cucamonga where we visit regularly and I'd gladly meet up with you some time if you want to ball me out in person. :D
