View Full Version : Why was the thread locked?

While I'm not totally surprised it was locked, I'm still curious. I didn't see any death threats or name calling. If this was a different website I'm sure it would have gone really sour, but it wasn't.

There was thread about drug laws a few weeks ago. Some people didn't agree with each other, but it still remained civil.

Is Hot Boat's goal to have only boating related subjects? I'd like to know before I try starting another thread. When I see topics about taking your dog to Lowes and kitchen remodels I would think this place is open to pretty much whatever.

There was a thread about a month ago about the boat tag fees going up. Everyone wanted to bitch about $12 but does anyone realize why everything goes up?

No it was the mussel fee. This won't help solve the problem. They'll just give us another sticker and make us think they're hard at work doing something.

Because I don't want politics here, that's why.

It started getting pretty political so I closed it. I chose to not have politics over many different topics. It was an easy target and no one wins in a political argument anyway, so whats the point? And I truly believe boats and politics don't mix :D

Kool aid drinkers very seldom like discussing politics.
I guess locking a thread is some what better than deleting one. Never did understand why Wendi's thread about the stolen scooter was deleted.
No doubt being the owner of the site has it privileges. If you want the site to look like your personal Facebook page, that's what it will look like.

Then wouldn't the boat tag fee thread fall into the political category? Why was that allowed?

You're pretty much dead wrong GN7. I don't drink cool aid, never have. I'm sorry you don't agree with my position of not having a PRF, but to be honest, it would only stink up the place. As far as deleting threads, that rarely happens now. I will lock a thread down and clean up the comments that I believe are offensive, but I will not delete a thread in its entirety. And I don't have a personal FB page. Well actually I do, but I have zero friends :D

Thank you for your support.

It was semi boating related. Yes it was borderline and probably should have been locked down, but I chose to leave it open.

Your thread got guys like GN7 who are very politically opinionated to post up their political feelings that were completely and 100% not related to boating in any form or fashion, so I locked it down.

If you're looking to catch me in a black and white rule type argument, that ain't gonna happen. I'm as slippery as they come. And yes GN7, ownership does have its benefits, and it also has its liabilities. None of which I've asked anyone here to share in.

Sorry to change the subject but I was on a job walk last week at Toyota in Torrance and seen 2 guys from Rusher Air there. One was a gray hair with a gray beard. Anybody you know.

Thanks for clarifying. I'm not asking you to change what you do with your own property (this site), I just want to know what is acceptable content and what is not.

NGE someone has to be in charge, I've assumed that responsibility. Not sure I like it, but it is what it is. The site is here for everyone. As far as what isn't acceptable, here are the top 4 again:

1. Nudity.
2. Porn.
3. Insults, personal attacks, slander, threats, or trashing, of other members or companies or entities or other websites.
4. Politics.

But like I said, you won't catch me in a black and white rule deal, unless its #1 or #2. The others have a little grey area here and there. Things said in jest carry a lot less weight than things said in earnest. It really is as simple as playing nice. As far as limiting what people post? LOL. Look at the crap Grads has posted. So yeah, we're pretty loose. Just don't push it everyday. Hope that helps.

I understand Vic's point of view on all of these. And I fully support him on his decisions regarding politics on here. Politics is poison. People don't listen, or want to listen, to another point of view. Last night on the fire engine thread was a perfect example. I finally threw in the towel and went to bed. fuck it. If they want to at it politically there are plenty of other places to go, on here is not one of them. The political room on that other site is a daily clusterfuck, and it needs not be brought over here. I will leave it to Vic's good judgement as to what is or is not political talk, and when and where it is too far. I have my hands full with stupid fucking conductors who have no business being in the business. You kids have fun now, and follow Vic's rules...I had a fucked up day today and am now going to go hide in the closet in the fetal position with the door closed and the lights turned off...
