Anyone know how to break in to them? the key pad type? I'm 100% I did not forget the combo. Tried 4 new batteries. It makes the 2 beeps before its supposed to open, but will not open. I'm on the phone with Cannon right now, but I'm sure they'll say something smart like "how do I know you're the legal owner of this safe?"

There is some important stuff in there. Never thought about a friggin safe failing. Just another nail in my coffin this week LOL

There is a way to reset the combo on the digital ones, but you'll need to find the instruction manual. Unless it's in the safe.....

try the default combination it came with from the factory. If the battery is dead long enough it might have reverted to the default.

Cannon said all the way to the right. Tried both ways. Amazing what you can think of in 5 minutes.

Tried the default, but its beeping twice, so that means the combo is correct. But it still wont open.

Cannon said a lock smith can open it, so they're sending me a new keypad. Now all I have to do is figure out how I'm going to get my checks out before tomorrow at 7am :swear

If he has a good quality safe, there's no way he's moving it. If it's from walmart, smash it and buy another one.

Call Dean safe company. I'm think they do 24 hour service and they can open the digital without drilling. I'm pretty sure.

Cannon is sending a lock unit free. This thing is at least 10-12yrs old. Either good customer service or they are aware of a problem. So all I have to do is get it open.

HB, the only thing my book says is wait at least 15 minutes bc they go in lockout mode after X amount of wrong combination attempts. Not saying you're entering wrong combo, but the safe may think so. :D

CH3NO2

Yes lol. Cannon told me to keep trying, to hit it (with my hand lol) above and below the key pad. After 50 tries it finally opened. So I removed the checks and closed it, then it wouldn't open again LOL. But after 3-4 tries it opened again. So definitely bad keypad. I left it open this time. New keypad should be here in a week. This time they wont have to drill it to open it, so it shouldn't be too expensive.

Interesting they're sending a keypad free of charge and she seemed to know that if I kept trying it would eventually open. Sounds like a common deal.

Not exactly. It really has no markings other than a cannon logo on the bottom. When the new one shows up I'll let everyone know. I was ready to torch it last night, but that would have burned up all the checks so no gain there :D

Wow, mine is only 30 min fire rating, probably wouldn't fair well in a fire.

Had the crap scared out of me when the battery went dead first time thinking I should have changed the batt bf it went dead. New batt and it opened right up. I wish I would have gotten a dial though.

It was a cheaper sentry gun safe with only a 30 minute fire rating as well. The fire was hot. My dad's expedition lit up and destroyed the garage and everything inside. The safe was right next to where the fire started. The locksmith gave me shit that is was a crap safe. 8 hours later after he finally got it opened he retracted his statements. Lol. I have 2 safes now. One with a dial and one with an electronic lock. I like the electronic lock way better. I can get in it faster.

More interesting reading on the topic: http://www.accurateshooter.com/technical-articles/electronic-vs-dial-locks-on-gunsafes/ (http://www.accurateshooter.com/technical-articles/electronic-vs-dial-locks-on-gunsafes/)

Look toward the middle of the page for this:

LaGard electronic locks all come from the assembly line set to 1-2-3-4-5-6. Most safe companies (Granite-Winchester is one) leave it at that, and either the retailer or the end user must reset it. My local Walmart store had those same Winchester safes on display, and one day I was in the sporting goods section near the safe display, and another customer asked the Walmart employee if she could open the safe so he could look inside. She said “no, sorry, I don’t have the combination handy”. I walked over, never said a word… just punched in 1-2-3-4-5-6, turned the handle opening the door, and walked away… again not saying a word. They both just looked at me… dumbfounded that I could open it like that.

Thanks 2MM, this confirms mine has LaGard mechanism. I guess I should change the combination from the default setting now. :D

Changed the lock mech and keypad. They don't tell you there are 2 little pesky screws under the stick on old keypad. Other than that it wasn't bad at all. And Cannon sent the pad & mech free of charge.

Yup. Went to a local western/outdoors store a few months ago. They must have had 30 or so safes and the 6 or 8 I checked they ALL opened with 1 2 3 4 5 6.

30+ size... and I am leaning towards getting a manual lock, NOT the electronic lock device...

Any thoughts/words of wisdom???
