View Full Version : What do you buy for your boat? And what does your boat need before the season?

I was talking to someone the other day and we were discussing what we buy (either in parts, upgrades, or service) for our boats.

I've been bad lately, the past couple years I haven't done much of my own anything. So I've found myself paying for a few things. Some of them I would never tackle myself, others I'm kind of ashamed to admit I pay other to do. So I'll start:

The DCB:

Annual Service
25hr services (engine and drive fluids)
Drive service (20-25hrs)
Details (yikes)
Interior remodel
Gel repair

The Toon (27' Playcraft with 496):

Annual service
Sound system (yikes, I should have done this)
Service - boat is actually having a problem right now

After the toon gets repaired, it really needs trailer bunks. Other than that both have been pretty well kept.
But the season is coming up fast.

Nothing to the boat. Working on redoing the trailer bunks at the current time. I figured 1 bolt out of 4 left on a few of them means its time.

Ever hire anyone to replace your bunks? I almost did until I found out he used lags 😁

I have to get a Place Diverter o-ring before the boat goes back out again...

I'd like to swap the intake from the Fast 90 to a Holley Hi-Ram, and retune. Not sure when that'll happen.

I added more to the list. I try to do something small each year. My list is getting smaller and smaller that soon entire new interior and engine will be done. I will be keeping KMG Boat (rub rail and carpet) and WOT (everything else including service) busy for a few weeks.

My bunks need replacing. I guess I'm newer than I thought. What's wrong with lags?
I did replace all four wheel bearings on the trailer last weekend after throwing one in October.

Not much for this year, I already added 2 speakers, in about 15 hours change oils. I want to add a water preasure gauge. That's about it, after all it is just a Toon.

Lags don't last long. SS through carriage bolts are the way to go.

WOT are good guys 👍

I've also heard good stuff about KMG.

Trailer work end of Feb.

New SS fenders
New bunks
Have a 6 tire set of Kragen? Schiada wheels and tires, like to get them on it
New brakes, and calipers on the brakes, bleed them and get them in order
Spray a little paint touch up

Boat

Tune up
Check outdrive
Prep for summer
Custom Paint AZ numbers on bow, Az stickers also
Clean wash and super detail

Yukon
Alignment on all wheels
Change fluids in Diff
Get Reg. current
Get ins. back on it (in storage status right now)

Maybe slight bit of gelcoat work later in year..has beaching scars under the bow
Also upholstery touch ups....

Not too much...:)

These tires....

If I cant get them to fit, I will have to sell them. They are in the garage, under a cover, in pristine condition...anyone interested in them??

Always use stainless carriage bolts and hardware. Lag bolts eventually work loose. Or worse yet get stuck in the support and when the wood eventually brakes away they end up in the bottom of the boat.

My repair list is small this year. Just service on the boat. Oils, filters, and water pump.

Speaking of exhaust manifolds does anybody have a pair of stock ones for the 7.4 MPI.

Sounds like you called the wrong guy. Try Sean at Bunkrepair in Havasu. He used all stainless carriage bolts with double nuts and nylocks on mine.

Besides normal service and teak oil, I replaced the stock shifter with this Dana unit that I got from a board member. Thanks Paul31768

Do you have a favorite place to get your boat parts and supplies?? Say like Eddie Marine or Rex Marine.

Or do you just have whoever is doing the work buy the parts?

I do most of my own stuff. I deal with Eddie Marine a lot because they have nice stuff and they do other shit like Hotrod parts and powder coating. For regular service items like filters Rode's Way is convenient and cool guys to deal with.
