View Full Version : I'm going to find this plane!

Check this out, it's right up my alley. A plane crashed back in 1965 into Folsom Lake and the people are still in it. The Lake levels are so low that the family thinks it might be found. I got in touch with one of the family members to try and find a location on the plane. I'm going out tomorrow to look.

Check out the story and video.

How deep is folsom where the plane is supposed be? Is folsom man made or natural? I cant imagine with the progression of recovery tech that this plane and bodies weren't recoverable since 65.

Folsom was man made back in 1955. The lake is probably 250-300' in the deepest part. The lake level is down over 100'. I've lived here for 35 years and had never heard of this until now. I know some local Sheriffs that have sonar equipment...might give them a call to see if they are interested in finding it.

Sounds like it would be a bad ass find. It would cost 10K + to get that plane up to the surface. A 200 ft dive would be taxing. U need a radio controlled submarine camera deal. That would be bad ass.

I remember hearing about this when I was a kid. If my memory is correct the plane sank very close to the Dam. So close that they felt it would be a danger to the Dam to try and recover the plane. As a kid I was always creeped out when we would swim off of the boat in front of the Dam. LOL.

After talking to the family member and where she told me they think it's located, I don't think it is in area that is very deep right now.

Honestly when the races happened earlier this year that was considered low. The parking lot that the H1's launched from is normally under 20' of water on a good year.

I did that a couple months ago in this thread. It has gone down another 15'-20' since the November pictures. Papaletch 4130 check out the pics.

Hey Grads. So, I too have become very interested in this story and finding that plane. I've lived in the area all my life and never heard of this story. I think a few of us are kayaking out this coming Sunday to see if we can see down or how close we can get. Did you go look? Any developments? I wonder what it would cost to rent some equipment. Anyway, look forward to talking to you. My email is Lacenelson@yahoo.com

This is a really good story and description. I was shocked to hear that there are still 50'-60' tall trees still standing underwater. :yikes: I thought most of the trees were cut down. This is the same guy that found a woman in the Delta last week. I have a feeling they are going to find it.

I went diving off the coast of Aruba back in the 90's. Down about 85' there is a downed DC3. It was an eerie feeling going inside that plane and sitting at the controls. The plane was actually in pretty good shape. I hope you find what your looking for...

If they don't find it at least I will know where not to look. ;) From what I understand the couple that is looking for it has found over 80 bodies before so they know what they're doing. The only problem is I talked to one of the family members and they told me the plane is somewhere else than where the search crews are looking.

Yeah I remember that. Funny thing is there were no roads near there so they think the car floated a couple of miles.

Which is exactly what that plane probably did once it hit the water. Aerodynamics and fluid dynamics are very similar. Now depending on the currents and the depth, that plane could have been taken a long ways down river before settling on the bottom.

If you want to find it, have you studied the water currents and done any calculations?

The water level only gets that low once every 40 years?
DOnt think there will be a drought before then?
