If you want them just for the brand then buy them. If you want a good sounding headphone don't buy them. I am in the audio business and I can tell you without a doubt they do not sound very good.

There are way better sounding headphones for the money.

I like the ear bud style. Those big headsets are a bit too much.

I've got 2 different kinds.
The Bose AE2, with cord, are awesome but they have a cord. Around $120.00. Great sound but not so good moving around because the cord gets in the way. They are over ear.

For Bluetooth, got these MEElectronic air fi runaways from Amazon for like $45.00 or so. They sound great and no cord to trip over. Also nice having volume and channel controls at the headphone and not at the phone. They are on ear.

My son says they are a joke... I use a pair of KOSS for the airplane and my son has some studio SONY cans... I grew up with KOSS and cant convince my son that they are studio quality...

At any rate, he says the DRE headphones are just a marketing deal/NAME gimmick... YOu didnt see them at COSTCO by chance, when you were there to pick up the Girradelis TRIPPLE CHOCOLATE brownie mix??? ;) I just saw those headphones Saturday at Costco and had the LONG discussion with my son about them...

I will stick with my folding KOSS that fit nicely in my backpack AND are a LIFESAVER on the airplane...

I made the mistake of buying the Beats "on the ear" headphones and now I'm stuck with them. I think the sound quality is actually decent but they hurt my ears and head after about 10 minutes of having them on. My friend Wallace did his research and purchased the Sol (I think they're called) "over the ear" headphones and he said he loves them. I wish I would have pulled a Wallace. Now I'm out of cash and still need to purchase usable headphones. To each their own I guess, for me, it's all about comfort.

That is one aspect I forgot to mention, I can wear mine for hours... Very comfortable...

Wendi, have you tried to find out what kind she wants? Teenagers are finicky you know and have to have what's popular. ;)

Bose is actually not very good either. Great marketing but poor sound.

Buy a set from a real Audio company. Any Harman brand like AKG, JBL, & HK. The new JBL S700 is one of the best sounds for the money ever.

Or any Sennheiser, Grado, or even some of the Sony headphones are good.

For in ear there is nothing better then the AKG K3003i. Seriously the worlds best in ear.

Skull Candy is mostly crap. They just hired their first actual engineer this year, so at least they are now trying. Most companies just buy off the shelf crap drivers from China and don't care how they sound.

Buy the new JBL S700 and never look back.

I buy cheap in the ear/around the ear headphone either by phillips or Sony to wear in the gym. They are like 10-15 and stay in while I work out and last about.
For a teenager, I would get whatever brand they are asking for. Generally, they care more about the name and how they will be portrayed by their peers then the quality of the product.

I saw the Beets headphones on sale at Costco or Sams last week FYI

These are for my 13 year old daughter. I'm not spending $300.00 on a pair of headphones, sorry. If I did that would be the only thing under the tree. I was hoping to keep the cost to around $100.00, can you recommend something in that price range? She's not one that's into brand name, so if she doesn't get Beats she is ok! She doesn't want something with style and cute colors.

I know but she is ok with not getting the Beats brand. I just want something around $100.00 that is good quality and stylish.

If I was spending $100 for over ear I would go with these below.

Or these http://www.jbl.com/estore/jbl/us/products/JBL-Bassline/JBL%20BASSLINE_JBL_US?skuId=BASSLINEBLK_JBL_US&searchMode=regularProductOnly&sCatId=cat150008

So if anyone else is thinking of buying Beats I can only say........this is a shitty company from an ethics perspective. I used to do business with them and they are a very disingenuous group owned 50% by Taiwanese smartphone company HTC.

In my case I wouldn't buy their products if they were twice as good as everybody else at half the price......and they are NOT!!

My mother was a very colorful woman who was raised in a pretty rough neighborhood and she would have said "I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire" or something to that effect. I on the other hand have evolved and would never use such language :rolleyes
