Is that for solar panels? What's going on in the sub-panels?

I'd wager you're installing a backup emergency generator with an automatic transfer switch that will allow it to feed the new sub-panel and important branch circuits.
Must be a fairly large genny !!

Ding, Ding, Ding.......We have a winner :thumb:

We are actually installing a 14KW natural gas, standby generator and isolating the key circuits into a sub panel. There are 16 circuits in total, we've been at it for almost 2 full days and hope to have it wrapped up by noon tomorrow. The biggest challenge was getting the wire to the Generator which is about 70' away from the panel :grumble

We should be able to run most of the things in the house if we lose power including the central air conditioning and most importantly the wine coolers..........I'm guessing we'll be kind of popular if the power goes out when it's 110 outside :action-smiley-035:

14kw is pretty damn big for a house. Looks like it'll run your a/c, microwave, toaster, and a couple of blow dryers at the same time :D

Do you have window screens to come down and make your house a bomb shelter as well?

Sometimes I feel like announcing that all future text messages will be posted on my blog at my discretion. That should solve my problems.

All things considered, like installation for one, 14KW makes it extremely useful while not breaking the bank.
If you don't mind me asking, which brand did you go with ?
I'm hoping you'll post some follow up impressions, especially regarding the running noise.

Well.....finished up the wiring this morning but had to head up to Bulkhead city to visit friends for a few days so I won't be able to finish up the wiring on the generator side and do the gas line till I get back this weekend.

Here's what it looks like at the panel with all the wiring finished. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/12/apa4ypyp.jpg

I moved a total of 18 circuits including the A/C, network center, entertainment center, most of the lights, both garage door openers, 2 refers a freezer, 2 big wine refers and even the washer/dryer and the oven (although we'll probably only use the microwave.

It will be interesting to see how we handle the load when we get it fired up. The good news is that the system has a "load shedding" feature that will turn off other items when the A/C is starting up so hopefully we'll be able to handle the entire load....I'll report back when we have ore info.
