Back in the day of film I would have never taken 3000 pics lol. Maybe 4-5, 36 exposure rolls. Whats kind of funny with plastic is I still don't hold the button down and machine gun every shot. Only because I know it'll be that many more I have to look at. 3000 is a lot for me. Usually I'm around 800-1000 or so.

Nice shots WMC. I guess E-12 saw you guys cheering him on. :)

At one point all of us went on the dock and waved as he came by.

Multiple E 12 drivers (sorry, don't know who all they were) were waving as they went by,, which actually had to hurt them some as all of them appeared to be driving with one hand and holding the seat or side of the boat to brace themselves for impact with the other. Even saw them waving at the sheriff boat on the other side.

For that matter, many drivers were aware of the photographers out on the docks. I have one shot that I need to post later of a driver with both hands off the wheel and in the air showing how easy it is to race "anyone can do it,,see!"

Can someone enlighten me as to why in a couple of the pics, boats # 512 and # 702 have observers and in others do not ?

Thanks for all the great pics !!

I must say, Hotboat.com is a real classy operation and a nice place to visit --- Thanks for that too

That's an optional thing, both of those boats get run in water ski races and the 2nd person probably does more good balancing the boat to make it worthwhile adding the extra weight. One of the other boats (321) had an approximate 200 lb steel plate bolted in where the "observer" seat would normally be to keep it running level. It you look, many of the purpose build enduro boats may have the driver's seat centered in the boat.

Makes sense considering the boat / hull type, perhaps on some laps they were running with a lighter driver and didn't feel the need to add the extra weight ?
Interesting info about adding the 200 lb plate.
Thanks

Basically the bottom of the boat is a pad design. When on the pad the boat has the ability to take a better set and be faster, even with the added weight. These boats move around a lot, as OB001 has said, it helps balance the boat and keep it on the pad.

I just think Jim (in the 512 boat) didn't want anyone telling him how to drive(kidding, Jim and I are friends)! I do have one photo somewhere of his boat "laying over" from a swell.

The boys are good friends and likely did it for fun as much as anything else, but I don't have personal knowledge of the handling of that Hallett. In the past I think the race has included a "ski race boat" class that required two people in the boat, never read the final rules this year.

This year Div4 was the ski race class. Rules per the NSWRA rule book. Passenger optional.

Passengers aren't optional in ski races? Where were the dang skiers?

Thanks Dennis, I got tired of reading about controversy, so since I was not involved with a boat, I elected not to read the stuff. In the past the E12 boat has often given people "rides", if you can call it that.

I learned we were in Div4 about 15 minutes before the start (I asked Bildo). Another thing about the start, you lined up per division (Div1 furthest up river, Div7 closest to the Headgate dam), then were lined up per the fastest qualifying (upriver) and the slowest (downriver). I didn't even know that's how it was gonna work, but was able to catch on and get all of us in Div4 in the right spot. The start was kinda cool, being right behind the boats, I think you guys were there?.

Here we are at the start, fast forward to about 2:30:

That would depend on the size of the film chamber. :hmmm:
