Why is the site resizing my pix to a size of 20 KB when the photo is 224KB?

Why is the site resizing my pix to a size of 20 KB when the photo is 224KB? Sorry about that. The sever the site is hosted on is experiencing issues so I am unable to troubleshoot this today. I will take a look at it at first opportunity.

Offhand though when you choose insert image, then from computer , then upload, it gives you a thumbnail you can double click on(mac) mayne right click on(PC) for size options.

I've uploaded some pretty big files on accident and they worked fine when I did what admin said.

You may have to go in to your settings and change your edit from basic to WYSIWYG so the pic will show up in the reply box.

Click settings top right
Then setting on the left
Then general settings
Then change this setting to advanced

Yes I can and it's 80 KB. I did get a couple of photos to post in a reasonable size and not get resized to the lowest denominator, thanks!

I guess I spoke too soon. The last photo started at 3 megs, I resized to 136 KB and the site resized it to 36 KB.

What's up with this?

Wheeler why are you resizing your photos prior to uploading? I never have resized a picture yet and they come out looking like the photo WMC just posted which was me BTW under his username. If the site automatically is resizing there is no need for you to do it on your end.

We've posted pics up to 11MB with no problem. We only resize to improve the shot.

So my picture came out big, but it is still an attachment. WMC, how did you attach it without the grey box around it and full resolution?

After you load your pic.
Now you see pic as thumbnail.
Double click pic another window opens.
I always click left and full size.
Try this

I am double clicking on the thumbnail, but I'm not getting another window opening up. It just makes the thumbnail larger. I also tried right clicking on it. Maybe it is an option you have as a moderator, that the Minions don't have. I don't know. I do know that my pictures show as very small unless I double click on all of them individually.

I'm not sure what's going on either. Sometimes it re-sizes my pictures to smaller than they should be as well. I've tried multiple methods. I've sent Admin a note hopefully he can get it worked out ASAP.

THis is maximum image size. Anything over gets re-sized. Screen resolution should be 72 dpi. File size is not an indication of how large the image will display.

What's Up Wendi!

I resize the photos cause I'm supposed to! besides, it takes too long to up load photos in their original format to the site when I can resize a batch on my side in an instant.

Wheeler why are you resizing your photos prior to uploading? I never have resized a picture yet and they come out looking like the photo WMC just posted which was me BTW under his username. If the site automatically is resizing there is no need for you to do it on your end.

I will start from smallest to the largest in this order ......

#1 240 by 320 45.8 KB

#2 640 by 480 142.6 KB

#3 1280 by 960 477.3 KB

#4 6.06 Mega Bytes

These sizes are either in Kilo Bytes (KB) or Mega Bytes (MB), not kilo bits (kb) or mega bits (mb)

I am not using the paper clip, I am clicking add file then select file then upload.

It took about 500 KB to get a 100 KB file to show and the 6.06 MB files is now 106.9 which is understandable and expected.

What I would like to know is, what is the optimum file size to upload correctly and efficiently without the site messing up what I had already done?

Thank you for your time and patience. :)

No paper clips! my mother used to beat me with a paper clip!!

Add file select file then upload file. I'll try resizing to the specified format, 1024 by 800, thanks!

This is the perfect size for viewing and is optimal as a screen saver up to a 30" monitor. What size was the original photo and how long did it take to upload it to the site?

What I'm seeing is 140 KB, did you resize to the maximum allowable pixels prior to upload or load a large file and let the site do the work?

Remind me to give you some paperclips next time I see you!! :happy:haha J/K. Seriously that picture was uploaded to the site at 3.4 MB (original from my camera to my laptop). The size automatically resized it to the size you mentioned. I've never resized a picture in my life. I don't even know how. Maybe you need to upgrade to a faster ISP, are you still using a computer from the dark ages??:realitycheck:

Here's how I resize most of the time unless I'm dicking around in Photoshop, then its a little different. But this works well and its pretty fast.

I use Microsoft Office to resize and fix up quick pics. My originals are usually larger than 6-8MB. Raw is even larger, 10-12MB. Always faster to resize if you're uploading more than a few pics.
6908
Simply click on resize
6909
I've been using this format and it seems to work well. File size is around 500-550K

I did not resize this picture on my end, so any re-sizing was done by the site when it was uploaded. It only took about 5-6 seconds to upload. My internet download speed is 30 Megs. I don't know off the top of my head what my upload speed is, but I think it is around 20 Megs. You can test your speed at several sites. I use SpeakEasy dot net, then select the server location that is closest to you (I use San Francisco).

There is an app for that, jk.

THere is a plug in. i think the site should have to resize pictures, i had to do it on the offishial site, it makes life so much easier for the end user. set the sizes and it does the rest...
