View Full Version : Work sucks some days

Need to vent. I work in internal audit for a global company, some days are better than others. Today while working in Japan has to be one of the worst I have had in the 15 years I have been doing this.

Long story short, a few VP's (5 to be exact) did not like an audit report I issued this week. End result; just had to file documents with HR and external council protecting me from potential retaliation and job loss. It has not been a fun day working as these acquisitions have been sent directly to the CEO and COO. I report to the Chief Audit Executive and Audit Committee. You think they would have communicated these concerns to my direct management first, but no direct to the COO and CEO along with 10 executive team members. Everything I documented is supported by detailed work papers and hard data, but they copied and pasted from the report I issued to make it look like I have no idea what I am doing and now these executives are challenging my creditability and the creditably of my audit report. Hard to defend yourself when you are working in Japan on an audit and corporate is in Cali.

Hope I still have a job when I go to work Monday in Tokyo.

LOL. Every night walking to dinner i am asked if I want a date or want to go to a club with very hot ladies.
We are staying in Roppongi, where all the night life is, so it is always entertaining, but no pics.
I work 12 to 16 hours a day, eat and sleep.
Looks like I only have to work Saturday this weekend, so I get to site see on Sunday and maybe take pics.

Life's too short to deal with that kind of crap, sounds like it's time to look for a different job, good luck.

So does your company provide external council to employees?

I have worked and done a lot of consulting for ******** companies. I love their creative accounting practices. They are the pro's in hiding and other alternative financial activities. :) In the biz you're in, credibility is everything. You are doing the right thing. If your company doesn't see and value what you are doing, then it might be time to move on.

Well, it has been a good day in the office.
Received phone or e-mail confirmations over the weekend from the Audit Committee Chair, CAE (my boss), COO, CEO, CFO, CIO and CHR that they reviewed the report and supporting documentation and agree and support my audit findings 100% and I have nothing to worry about. All 5 VP's are now on administrative leave pending an investigation into collusion to discredit myself and the report. It is my responsibility to execute those types of special investigations, but for this one we are hiring an external firm to execute the review.

Glad I got the support from almost the entire executive team. Shows me the company is trying to do the right thing and sees the value internal audit can provide to a company.

I am very happy that this worked out for you!!

A little advice from a former "Corporate warrior"; The next time a better offer comes along from a competing or complimentary firm......TAKE IT and hit the bricks.

THis is likely not over and those notes you received were simply CYA (Cover Your Ass) notes. You are likely damaged goods in that company now and there will be people taking shots at you.....maybe not now, maybe not next year.....but one of these days one of those VPs will stab you in the back.....this shit does not go away and neither do bad players.....they just rise from the ashes and will always remember that it was you and not them that caused this issue to happen and will always see you as someone who messed with their career.......my .02

Sorry to be a downer here but I've seen it happen many, many, many times.....this stuff does not just appear to never have happened and those guys sending you praise in writing are having different conversations behind closed doors.

All the best of luck and I hope to God that I am wrong in this case for your sake!!

^ Been there, done that. As the previous number one sales officer of one of the largest bank's in the nation, even a clear name can be tainted when you prove the accusers wrong, especially when it's from the CCO of your division. I took the next opportunity out.

Already looking for the next opportunity. Have 5 interviews lined up when I am back in California.

i agree with you, might be covered but that can change daily. Best to take what I learned and move to the next company.
