Not the enduro but a early Havasu race.
22944
World Outboard Championships. That was a $25,000 race back in the 60s and 70s, sponsored by Robert McCulloch. Winner also got a residential lot in Havasu too. Only boat race I know of that had a right hand turn to go around what was then the peninsula, to Havasu Landing and back to the Nautical.

Damn, when did the numbers start to drop? That looks like some serious deck to deck racing.
There was over a 100 entries in the 1965 Parker 9 hour and it remained in that area until about 1973 when the oil crisis hit, and it never fully recovered. The race was shortened to 6 hours, and it just kept slipping in numbers.
The World Outboard Championships died when Robert McCulloch did. Not quite as many boats but close, and the race itself ran two days.

RD needs to get to work on how is going to attract more inboards, or that race will turn into the very thing that destroyed the old enduro, An outboard clusterfuck. The odds of an inboard winning this thing with the ratio of inboards to outboards this race had is about nil. Enough of those and interest will go in the toilet. Nothing against outboards. They are about indestructible and perfect for this kind of race. But they don't create the interest that the GN77 and Gary's 17, the 193 Nordic and some of the other boats create. People like load fast ass inboards.

Prop and prop shaft failures continue to haunt the hi horsepower V Drives . The Orange E boat looks like a Bunky to me .
Don't sure how many V drives went down with shaft and box problems this year. It has been a problem in past years. I think 5 or 6 went out one year all with v drive problems. One year it was like 4-5 with ignitions. Last year it was a pretty even split between prop shaft/v drives, and valve train problems. Maybe a couple more shaft/box problems, but valve train for some reason was a gremlin last year.
The E 12 is a "Bunky" boat.

You're very welcome. Did you attend the Enduro?
I did and have mixed emotions. I am not a huge poster on either site. But I see it ALL (avid follower on a few forums) . With any attempt at revitalization ( yes I said revitalization) it takes key players to be all in. I didn't see that with this dying sport. Sad. If the effort was put towards the betterment of the sport instead of protecting ones ego, the sport would be secured for our kids. At this rate, my eight month old won't be able to enjoy it.

No I am not a racer. Why should you or I not be able to pass judgment as fans of the sport? Are you not aware that sports are profitable because of the fans that follow them, not the participants. Sponsorship is certainly not geared towards advertising to the participants of the sport. Its for the fans. Why didn't you cover it? Does ABC not cover the World Series presented by FOX? The improvements are needed at the root level. The legends and new comers need to be all in, together.

I take it you did not see the 300 as a "revitalization" of the race, and you give zero credit to those that developed the CURRENT format plagiarized by the current promoter from those that developed the format 8 years ago?

Trust me. he will be putting one in somewhere else again. And it won't have speed limits.
28 total boats entered, less than that started the race. WORST previous year was 35 boats. This was the "revitalization" you're raving about?
Did YOU put a boat out there to preserve the sport for your kid? Did you put a boat in the previous 300 to help preserve the sport for your kid? Will YOU be putting a boat on the water Thankgiving weekend at Bluewater to help preserve the sport for your kid.

You make a valid point, point taken. I've heard from several "spectators", and they all enjoyed the race. I wasn't there, so I can't comment. You bring another valid point in regard to coverage. I agree, the more coverage any event can get, the better off everyone is. That's pretty basic stuff really. The problem with this particular race is it was sponsored, promoted, and controlled by rdp. It was far from neutral as far as boating websites are concerned. It was an rdp event, 100%, and that's fine. We have no issue with that. However when you take this kind of position, you are always going to leave other sites sitting by the curb. Presented by, without the controlling factor, is different deal. There is still some neutrality. Other sites might be more inclined to attend. As a boating site operator who wants to bring the best coverage to their members, for this particular event, one word kind of sums this up for me. Myopic.

So you don't actually race a boat to preserve the sport for your kid, but YOU think that others should dump 5000.00 plus to run this race just to save it for your kid, and those that don't SUCK! Wouldn't YOU fall under that description for somebody else's kid? Why did YOU put a boat out there for my neighbor's kid. boat racers race for themselves. fans dont pay for tickets and add to the prize money, we dont sell shirts or make money from being popular. its a weekend warrior sport as far as races like 300 goes. so why the hell would we care about the fans? sure a 12 mile course had 1/2 the traffic and was less entertaining for the fans, but from someone who drove in it, it was exponentially more fun, less traffic, smoother water, longer course to add to the driving experience, safer conditions for the racers, it was sick! so when fans bitch it doenst really matter because if the shores were packed or empty it doesnt matter to the racers.

If it wasn't for the fans would there even be a race. HHHmmmmmm!!!!!
No, I wasn't interested in lining RD pockets, or being part of his egotistical promotion of himself and reserve the right to do so. It is the ONLY 300 I didn't enter. Can you say the same. I have done enough 300 to know what the expenses are, so I don't need a someone that never has to tell me what the costs are.
Why wouldn't there be? Did anybody pay to watch? What are the people that are on the shore doing that makes this race a success? It there were no boats, would the people be on the shore? This isn't major league baseball or Nascar. We race plenty of places where there very few spectators outside of family.
Been to a circle race at Bakersfield? No??? The boats sure as fuck are!!!!

The sponsors sure as hell care if fans show up. Do some research and find out how much professional sports teams make in ticket sales compared to TV rights. merchandise, oh and dare I say it sponsorship money.

ive been behind the scenes of putting races on long enough to tell you thats not true. sure mabye they bought a few even shirts but that might have covered one buoy they bought. races are put on by racers who want to race. go to any race at lake ming and youll see about 10 spectators. its been like that for years. yet they still have 6 races there a year. because the boaters want to race. and will make it happen. sure do spectators help fuck yea. but id take a good race with no spectators over a shitty race in a packed stadium
Furthermore if the racers just want to race then they should have been there.

I think so. Fans don't pay for admission so it's not like they're helping the pot. At the same time, sponsors are trying to get to the fans wallets which is why they put out the sponsorship dollars. You need them all but true racers are there for the race and will race wether fans show or not.

The sponsors sure as hell care if fans show up. Do some research and find out how much professional sports teams make in ticket sales compared to TV rights. merchandise, oh and dare I say it sponsorship money.
its not apples to apples when ur comparing boat racing to any other sport. Im gonna logoff n enjoy my sunday, arguements on the internet never end
Furthermore if the racers just want to race then they should have been there.
Did not see you there. So I guess I could have brought my kayak and beat you. Damn. Next year
The racers that wanted to be there were, and those that didn't weren't. No different than you. You just seem to have sour grapes because you seem to think people owe you free entertainment for your kid.
You want to see some boats, go to Bluewater this thanksgiving and you will see some boats. Plenty of them.
Sorry that not as many people as you hped were willing to part with their money for your kids entertainment.
I wan't there because I don't happen to agree with the format. I have that choice just like the millions of other boaters that didn't enter.

Did you park your brain when you wrote that? Races are put on every weekend throughout the country, with no sponsors. You have it in your mind that they are out there for you entertainment or some big ass pay out. THEY ARE NOT!!
Racers make a decision when and where they are going to race and with and against who. The spectators have little to do with that decision. When the number of spectators starts effecting the cost to race, then and only then will the spectator have ANY say in the matter. Until then, STFU and enjoy the 3 boats that might show up to entertain you ass FOR FREE

First ran out of cash, then interest to entertain the whiners. Speed limits aren't my thing. Its why a quit drag racing. Hope this doesn't become the new standard in boat racing. All the boats equipped with GPS and stop watches and cruise controls.

He definitely pulled it off!!
I guess that would come under definition. He got 28 boats entered, 26 started the race, compared the previous worst year of 35.
He did not do the mass start or do away with the handicaps that he promised but was told was undoable. But he insisted were doable.
He ran a race using a existing format and divisions on an extended course with the help of a hired director because he learned right off he had no clue. The above previous claims he had proved he was clueless and needed somebody to handle it for him.
So I would say Scott pulled it off, RDs side of it, getting boats on the water, not so much.

There might have been less that the 26 I mentioned. I was going off the claimed 28 entered that was 10 less than the claim a week before the race which fully explains the reluctance to list the entries prior to the race. Which I somewhat figured was the reason. You can't 38 entries and post 28 if there were even that many a week before. I just deducted 2 boats that broke on Friday that didn't make the start from the claimed 28 entries. Was there less than 28 entries or did more than 2 boats break Friday? I don't know and don't really care.

Don't make it sound as though he saved this race or boat racing. It would have happened even if he hadn't stolen the race from the racers that developed it. I would never use the words "jumped in" when it comes to RD and this race. Sounds too much like a "rescue" Far from it.

When this race goes off next year with GN points, are you going to enter and run the race?
Why didn't it go off as a points race this year? Are they going to change something. Is RD admitting he fucked up with the rules, like the mass start and no handicaps that didn't happen. Are you going to be in the race next year??
Wasn't one of the so called "bitches" about the 300 the ever changing rules, that never really changed that much? Is RD going to "re write" his master plan? Or write rules on the fly like he did for the restart of this race?
Since when does a boat that stopped a race allowed to re-enter the race? Is that something they invented on the fly as well? If you are about to go a lap down to a boat in your division you just jump out of the boat so there is a restart and group you all back up. WTF!!!!!
Why couldn't Teague pit when the race was stopped. Was there something in the rules that said he couldn't?? Where in the rules was that illegal??
Did they stop boats that where already in the pits from working on them???WHY NOT???

I think a way to beef up the racer entry number would be to promote more 17-19ft outboard boats. Looking on craigslist for an F3 (ski race boat) boat and they are ranging from 2-5k and over of course. But assuming the hull was sound and the motor was decent you could probably have a fun enduro boat on a budget. Obviously not the fastest but a good way to bring back the "grassroots" vibe to the race. The big boys can still run hard at over a 100 and maybe a few guys can battle it out in the budget class. I just got into ski racing last year and I have a lot to learn about racing but I think there is a lot of hate on outboards when in reality they seem to be a lot more affordable than an inboard boat. And arguably more reliable
Edit:
I realize racing is not about saving pennies but a lower startup cost would be more attractive to newbies

Geeze, I asked one question. (That didn't get answered)
I don't have the answers to your questions and I have not seen the rules. I don't have a dog in this fight and am not swinging on anybody's nuts. I was just wondering what is it going to take to get everybody back on the water for this event?
I would guess that it was too little time to iron out the details to have it be a points race this year. Sounds like the 2 sides where just too far apart. It is sad that there are 2 sides, but it is what it is.
Changes, I would think they are going to try to make the race better. They now have a base knowledge to put to good use.
I don't know what RD is admitting to. Didn't know it was my turn to watch him.
I will not be racing next year, might offer my boat and services in another capacity.
I think the main bitch was about the embezzlement of the prize money, and YES the rules need to be addressed and fixed. Should not be able to wrench under red flag, whether in the water or pits.
What exactly do you mean by promote more 17-19 ft outboards? give special treatment? Who should promote them? The race promoter, or the other guys running 17-19 ft ski outboards?
I understand what you are saying. just don't understand who you think should be doing this "promoting"

Lot of never got our questions answered either. Why are you special. What even makes you entitles to an answer from me or anybody else that did run this race. Like I ask everybody, whats it take to get YOU on the water?
Not much different than RD did with the boats he claims he wanted in the race, but his mouth proved otherwise. If you think it was just me, I am one boat. Where were the others. Where was last years co winner? The winner before that? Why do you sack swingers continually lay blame on everybody but where the blame lies. I mean the veteran racers. Something that I have to credit ski racers with is they seem to be constantly trying to get people into the sport. WOT marine is a great example. They got me into racing and basically said show up ready to ski and we will get you racing. And I was hooked. And I have seen them do it with others as well. They try to get you as passionate about racing as they are. BJ aka Crazy hippy has leant me equipment at multiple races to keep me on the water. As has Justin Hill.
That whole soapbox pertains to one guy skiing behind a boat. In my first races that was built up from completely newbies I'm sure every guy being towed had the same similar story.
And I know that those same people exist in boat racing. The same people that will help turn a wrench to keep you running, lend a prop etc. So I am not trying to put one racer over the other.
I think what happens to a lot of people is they see WOT Nordic Teague Bloodshot etc and say holy crap that's awesome but there's no way I am running the family boat against that, or am I forking out 40k to hang with them. But everyone has to start somewhere so pushing the 17-19 ft outboard boats seems like a good way to tell the masses that while yes you can run a $100k+ boat at the enduro you can also run an avenger with a 150. Of course it's not glamorous but you just added one more guy to the fleet. And hopefully that person stays with the sport and moves up the ladder.
It seems like there should be more focus on bringing in new blood to racing. Just an opinion.
Btw I make no claims in being a expert or even knowledgable about boat racing. Just spitballing ideas.

You have the right idea Hallett, and you seem to understand, I think. Who's responsibility it is to promote a give type racing and or boats. That's what confused me about the "promoting" of 17-19 ft ski boats. I thought you were suggesting it was some how partially my responsibility, or the guy racing K boats or drag boats or offshore boats. We all do what we can to help anybody get started, IN THE CLASS AND TYPE OF RACING WE ARE INVOLVED WITH. I can't help promote ski boats because I know zip about them. That's WOT's job, or some other group involved. I don't remember you or WOT getting anybody involved in K boats, or GNs, and I don't expect them to. Its not their thing. You get my point Hallett. Don't mean to sound harsh, but had a problem with who your original post was aimed at. Exactly who do you suggest do this promoting of 17-19 ft ski boats. I think you answered your own question.

Ya I understand what your saying. Same way a dirt bike racer will help another guy get into riding track and probably not driving trophy trucks.
I was speaking more towards the enduro rather than GN, COR, ski race etc. the enduro seems like a year closer or opener depending on what you race that allows all different kinds of boats to compete. So obviously you get a melting pot of racers. And maybe the key to building it up is by promoting the enduro in the smaller racing classes that happen year round. Jazz up the gn, COR, ski race guys about competing in the enduro.
As an outsider looking in the enduro appears to have the potential to add a lot of fresh blood because it only happens once a year. So the cost throughout the year wouldn't be as high compared to a guy running 5-10 races a year. And if your lucky the guy gets bored racing once a year and starts entering other races throughout the year

Did promotions during college and IMO, the promotor leveraged his online network and Teague.
If you take those away, not much occurred. I was always told do at least 10 things that were not done last time and you did your job.
What you said makes a lot of sense
And if your lucky the guy gets bored racing once a year and starts entering other races throughout the year
The GN and COR guys were already jazzed up, and have been for years. They became UN jazzed. As for the ski race guys, that your area. Most circle guys never see them or even know most of them.
I seem to sense you think maybe the promoter should put more push on the smaller less expensive boats? At the risk of ignoring the bigger/faster boats?
If I am a promoter, I want all the boats and as many as I can attract, WITHOUT PLAYING FAVORITES. Not saying that happened here or any time before. Saying you don't want that to start. Its a bad idea.
What I saw here was exactly what Singleton posted. The promoter spent all his time promoting himself, primarily on his own website, to his own group of loyal followers who had no intention of entering the race, but he loved the praise he was hearing, and less promoting the race and the racers. This thing from day one was all about RD and his rushing in to save the day. Like Obama. Its SUPER DAVE, and I am here to save boat racing. YAWN!

Wow. I am new around here. And I have to say I have never met gn7 nor do I even know who he is. It jus seems like u make urself look really bad by bashing on this rd guy. I am wondering how old you are.
By reading here and figuring out what over there is. (Rdp). I have bounced back and forth trying to read between the lines and it seems there is some issues between people. If you don't like something you should get involved and try to make it better or jus close ur mouth and go with the flow or walk away and not look back.
Gn7 I would hate to be as angry as you come across in ur post. If your not then I am wrong. Jus dont think I am.
Also seems like some rude underlined comments back and forth between the sites. As a buisness owner I was taught that bad mouthing the competition only takes money out of your pocket and more in their pocket.
On a dude note. I really like the hotboat logo I need to order a hat and a shirt. :). Thanks
Ps. Same comments for this grads person. Why so angry towards somebody. I have my own theory. If u can't fix the problem u eliminate it. Why not jus move on with ur paddle boarding :)
Trying to decide if I want to read all of this.

It's kind of dramatic, then civilized, then getting dramatic again. You can skip the middle.

Who am I angry towards??? I don't think I've ever been angry towards anybody on the boards. :headscratch: I might say something a little tongue in cheek to someone but it is not out of anger. I'd like to hear your theory. You want me to move on? I have a better idea....why don't you start a thread about your boat.:hmm

Looks like it got taken down again....I guess I'll leave that one alone. Hopefully someone right click saved it to share it later on. ;)

I took ur comments as angry towards this whole rd guy and this race If not then then I was wrong. Maybe angry isn't the right word. How about the word dislike.
Move on meant jus go paddle boarding some more. Was that not your thread ? Let me go double check
Is it a requirement for me to start a thread about my boat to be here ? Maybe I jus find another forum ? Would that be better for ya? :)

Nope it is not a requirement. Grads need to go paddle boarding and find another bomb or something. Lurker he is just sarcastic and we are all used to it. He's not angry though, just a :weirdo:. You'll get used to him.

Trying to decide if I want to read all of this.
It's the sane thing as before. Gn7 had some interesting points before the race. Now he's just back to being a crotchety old fuck throwing a tantrum.
Here's the cliff notes.
It cost gn7 $5 k to race Parker.
He knows everything. Just ask him...although he won't answer the question you asked. He will always answer 5 other questions you didn't ask.
In his mind the race was not a success. Yet those who were there saw different. (Shows what a screwed up place his mind is)
Racing is not about the money, fans, fun or anything but points. Without points don't race.
Gn7 is like that drink in a bar who just repeats the same rant over and over. Your point has been made. STFU or do something about it.
Grads is still a douche and why hotboat still let's him post here is beyond me.

For ur info I came up with lurker cause I have jus been lurking as people had made comments about not signing up. And I thought wow that's me I will sign up and use that name. I would not use my personal name or anything about me on the Internet anywhere. Sorry it doesn't meet ur standards. Maybe i should jus stayed a lurker. :)
For the record I own more than one boat if that makes u happy grads. :).
Well I attended the Parker 336 and I think I should start a new thread about my comments regarding the race.
Why? Well they would probably get buried in this thread. As it went from unanswered questions to positive commentary to drama and back again...laughing.
I will probably start a new thread....later in the day.

When this race goes off next year with GN points, are you going to enter and run the race?
Is this the moronic question everybody seems to be so concerned went unanswered? Answering this question will make the race a bigger success? If RD thought for one second this would make it a better race, he would have addressed this. ITS NO BIG DEAL. It doesn't need addressing. It had ZERO effect on the turn out.
Prize money and the fact that the famous RD himself was in charge plus his huge group of loyal followers is all the race needs to draw all the boats the river can handle.
Ask RD if he would rather have ALL the GNs and CJs or ALL his loyal nuts swingers out there, and then go after that group.
I find one thing very interesting about this race. Hands down one of the most popular boats owned by boat owners in the country is jets.
WHERE WERE ALL THE JET BOATS???? Was there a single jet?? Just one???
Before RD goes after getting even one APBA GN or CJ, he should go after ALL the other boats in the country that didn't show up. He was missing MAYBE 10 GNs and 5 CJs, out of millions of boats in then country. If he had just 1% of the boats that could be there and weren't, nobody would give a shit about that dozen boats.
Answer: He would have to change more than just the points to get me out there, unless I needed those points.
What would it take to get YOU and ALL the other nutwswingers out there, and then he will have made a HUGE stride in getting a serious turnout. But that would prove to be more impossible than getting ALL the Ks, SS, PS, crackers, GPS95, and nostalgia boats out there.
Why are the nutswingers the largest group of finger pointers in all this.
That's a question, and I would like an answer to it.
