View Full Version : Does your Wife ever drive the boat

Wondering if anyone of the Wives drive the boats, every once in a while Terri will grab the wheel and let me chill, it's good for her to stay on top of driving anyway, just in case something would ever happen unexpected.

Mine has driven mine twice while I was troubleshooting issues behind the back seat.

I've driven our boat on the river a few times on off days. I'm the launcher/retriever and damn good at it.

She has not as we just got the boat up and running this year.
Next summer is going to be her time to learn!

I think it's best if they can at least do the minimum, just in case, god forbid something bad would happen and you're out by yourself they may need to how to get the boat back.

Thats how we do it also. Mine is scared to death of bumping a $750K DCB or Skater.

I always launched and retrieved...but I learned how to drive the boat just in case. I took her for a spin in the early morning up to Havasu Springs while it was still quiet at least once per trip (we were out every other weekend) and would get her up to 75 mph. I never went over that though. This last summer I drove a Donzi that was super fun and I've idled a few friend's boats too. I prefer to know how to drive the boats I am on just in case something happens and there is no one else who can drive.

My wife will take the girls out for a booze cruise while we are on shore working on the hotrod boats. I doubt she will ever drive the hotrod boat tho, and thats my decision. Haha

My wife has driven the boat a few times, but would rather not. She's mainly launch and retrieve (and she's very good at it)

I've driven NRI's Howard a few times, but I'd rather not...I prefer to be the co-pilot! That's too much boat for me! I'm too afraid of hurting his precious baby! lol If something happened to him, I could get us to safety. I prefer to launch/receive and I'm good at it!

My ex never drove the boat and my girlfriend is scared of it. I taught my 10 year old son how to drive the boat when he was 8. He can handle her in the channel without any problems. I told him if anything happens to me to just take us back to the launch ramp and put it on the beach, not to worry about the prop or scratching the bottom. Sad to say he knows more about the boat than the GF.

Mine drives ours all the time she will pull me water skiing and the kids on the towable. And take the girls on a booze cruise or for a ride. She will not pull up to a dock or take it off the trailer put it back on the trailer. She does a phenomenal job backing in the trailer in for launch or retrieval.

Let me see what I can dig up. Not only does she drive it, she has taken it out by herself (and a girlfriend). She drove our last boat at well over 100 m.p.h......not many women can say they've done that.

When I meet her in Havasu she had her own 21' Caliber 1 boat. We have a 25' Eagle now. She can drive it, launch it, retrieve it and back it uphill into our garage.

You know what's weird??

20 years ago my wife had no issues driving the boat.....she even made me put in an adjustable drivers seat so she could reach the pedal in those days.

She would pull me when skiing and drive the boat on and off the trailer when we launched.

Fast forward 20 years and I can't even get her to drive the pontoon when we are in the middle of the lake never mind driving on and/or off the trailer. It's like one day she woke up and decided she didn't want to have anything to do with driving either boat.....like I said weird!

Anyone else been through this???

Don't worry, you're not alone! At least your wife goes with you. It's too hot for mine or maybe the girls are too hot at the river ( i don't know), so she hasn't been to the river in 15 years. So, a win win situation for me. :D Soon, my youngest daughter will graduate from highschool and that anchor I have had for 30 years will be cut loose.
