TAHOMA, Calif. — A 68-year-old woman died Thursday after her husband accidentally backed into her while trying to park a boat on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore.
Larry Kaufmann, 70, of Homewood, was driving a 2003 BMW and maneuvering the attached boat and trailer into a driveway at 475 Grouse Drive in Tahoma at about 1:30 p.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol, his wife, Carol Kaufmann, was outside the vehicle giving verbal directions.
For unknown reasons, Larry Kaufmann lost control, and the rear of the BMW struck his wife, who was pinned against a permanently affixed “bear box” trash bin.
Carol Kaufmann suffered major blunt force trauma and died in the collision. Larry Kaufmann was not hurt.
Neither alcohol nor drugs contributed, according to CHP.
