In what title sponsor Lucas Oil expects to become a series of endurance run record attempts, the California team of Nigel Hook, Dan MacNamara and Lance Ware is preparing to break the existing world record from San Francisco to Los Angeles and continuing on to set a new world record for a 435-mile run from San Francisco to Long Beach.

Wasn't there a big red cat that was going to try this recently? What happened to them?

It's going to happen this Saturday. They were probably going to tie it into San Francisco's Fleet Week until it got cancelled because the Blue Angels are grounded.

Hopefully the winds and swells cooperate

Rough seas stopped a similar event around Long Island

The big red cat you're thinking of was an OL 51 Cat w/Sterlings 1550s. It was supposed to take place in late August, idk what happened? It was from the Golden Gate to Marina Del Ray, 420miles at approx 100mph. I believe they were attempting to run the course in about 4.5hrs.

Yep, that was it. I wonder if they ever attempted it?

The last post on another site from the crew was on 8-26, and it appears as though they haven't made the run. Idk what happened, there haven't been any updates since august.

Link to the thread?

Seems like a cool race. Wonder how soar the people in the boat are going to be after 400+ miles in the ocean.

Jeff Murray said in the other thread that they still plan on making the run, but are still working with the APBA on the timing of the run.

Does anyone know what's going on? Looks like they're not there yet? No record?

You can track them here....it looks like they haven't gone very far in the last 3 hours.

Sure they're not done?

No I'm not. But the website that tracks them says they're still out in the Ocean.

This just in....

The Lucas Oil Ocean Cup Team just moments ago completed the long run from the Golden Gate Bridge to the QueenMary in 9 hours 50 minutes and 51 seconds after battling rough 10 foots swells, electrical problems and water in their fuel. Unfortunately they did not beat the past record of 6 hours and 43 Minutes but a great run. Stay tuned for more details...
