Ladies first, let me see who else is in the countdown and I'll pick someone else. I would have taken Bowyer, but after yesterday I don't think so. Sounds like PR has the 18.

Yea, just throwing an idea out. How about we divide the cost of a Hot boat cooler by the number of entrants(entry fee) and make that the prize for winning the chase. Anyone else feel free to throw up ideas. :)

They not only added Gordon, but I guess the whole thing with Boyer allows Nascar to rewrite the rule book. Because under the original wild card rule, you COULD NOT get a spot in the chase without a win from the wild card slot, regardless how many points you had. Before the shit hit the fan, the only way Gordon could get in the chase was to win the race. But hey, its nascar, and its a dictatorship, and they can do what ever the hell they like.

In my opinion, this is a bad idea, and it discredits nascar even more than the Boyer incident.
But hey, and Bill France Sr himself said, this is a dictatorship, and I am the dictator. It the suits want the gay boy from Park Ave, New York, in the chase, then they will find a way to get him in.

2013[edit source | editbeta]
Whereas the Chase field under this system has always been comprised of twelve drivers, the one exception to this rule was in 2013, with 13 drivers in the Chase, as the result of a controversial finish to the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond, when Clint Bowyer appeared to spin intentionally to bring out a caution in an attempt to manipulate the finish of the race so as to help his Michael Waltrip Racing teammate Martin Truex, Jr. clinch a Wildcard spot in the Chase over Ryan Newman, who had been leading at the moment of caution. This was further suggested by radio communications on Brian Vickers' team telling him to pit under green. Newman was shuffled back on the cycle of pit stops, and ultimately ended up finishing third to Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch, and tied Truex in final points for second Wildcard spot. Truex won the tiebreaker on top-five finishes. However, the following Monday, NASCAR issued some of the most severe penalties imposed on a team in its history. All three MWR teams were docked 50 owner/driver points. As the penalty was applied to pre-Chase point totals, it ended up knocking Truex out of the Wildcard spot and put Newman in his place.
Afterwards, there was further controversy when radio transmissions were discovered suggesting that Front Row Motorsports and Penske Racing had struck a deal for David Gilliland to give up a spot on the track for Joey Logano, allowing Logano to race his way into the Chase and take the final lock-in position by one point over Jeff Gordon. A second NASCAR inquiry resulted in both teams being placed on probation for the remainder of the year. Although Logano was allowed to keep his Chase berth, the field was expanded to 13 with the addition of Gordon. NASCAR chairman Brian France has always had the power to expand the Chase field in exceptional circumstances, and decided to invoke it in order to put Gordon in the field. NASCAR determined Gordon would have qualified for the Chase if not for the "unfair disadvantage" he had suffered due to Penske/Front Row's collusion.[5]

Like as when Nascar' s most favored son is inline for an expanded chase field?
Kind of reminds me of the Pink Floyd tune, MONEY MONEY MONEY!

Just not sure how Nascar manipulating the field is somehow better than the teams doing it. But then, the team owners aren't the dictators of the phoniest racing on earth.

Someone sent me a pm, and I went to yet another website to see who you are, and found out you definitely have the credentials. Anyway, I'm not one to BS behind the keyboard and wanted to shake your keyboard hand and see if you want to pick up one of the remaining cars in the chase bet we have going here. When i saw you posting in the Scarlotta thread I figure your going to be a regular on HB, so might as well be friends. Oh and I'm cool with the Lucas guy too! :D

Not really sure of the "incident", but I assume it was on RDP. I have a reasonably good memory, so if I don't recall it, it wasn't something that I felt I needed to. So you can tell how much it must have bothered me. No harm done. :thumb:
As for a pick in the chase. Anybody I would pick has been taken.
Heres my take on it:

Jimmie isn't done re writing the record books, and has the most proven chase runs.
Kyle has something to prove after the disastrous showing he displayed in his last chase.
I don't even know what to say about Kurt, but for the money that team is running on, it pretty unbelievable.
Never take you eyes off Kasey, all he has ever needed was a car that ran.
Jr and Gordon are just field fillers and no chance in hell. I am thinking 12 and 13th place in the chase. Hendricks keeps them both for sentimental reasons.

The rest have me pretty bland,

Not much aside from pure ignorance bothers me. Asking for credentials is a pretty common question, and outside of work related, not sure I have any. Any I might have I don't wear as a badge, so I probably didn't answer you.

I used to love the drags. Bet I burnt more gas at Lions as a kid than I did on the streets. Every weekend in the late 60s and the entire 70s I was at Lions, Irwindale or OCIR. But I bet I saw Larry Dixon SR make more passes than seen Jr make. Still enjoy going every couple of years to the Winternations, but I don't follow it any more. Still an incredible sight to see though.
But there is only so much time and money, and my interests moved on. I don't really follow Nascar as close as I did, must still try to keep up with it.

Lol, I'd be same way in Grand Nationals and Crackers, but have profound respect for what all you guys pull at your venues! Are you friends with Rivergames? I just know him from the Internet. I would like to buy you and your crew a round if I'm at a venue your racing!

First I heard of this, been out on the water last few days. Somehow I'm not surprised, to quote DE Sr. " BF Sr. would roll over in his grave".!!

Andrew(Rivergames) runs with the Lucas drag race circuit, and no longer runs APBA events. Long political story, that I have never taken sides with. I am sure each side of the cracker debacle has their reasons for going separate ways. But damn it sure hurt one of the best classes in circle boats. I wish it would end, but I don't see it happening any time soon.
We have stepped back a little from the racing deal. We didn't run at all this year. Last year took its toll on us and we were wiped when it was all over. Was it worth it? Yeah, any time you win a championship and a Hall Of Champions induction you can justify it. But sometimes you would rather be in last place and none of the stress. We found ourselves at each others throats too many times during the year, and the team is all family, so we shut it down for a breather. We may run a couple selected races this year. There are a couple things we would like to accomplish before we hang it up entirely. So we aren't done.
If you see the boat at a race you attend, stop by the pits and say HI!

First I heard of this, been out on the water last few days. Somehow I'm not surprised, to quote DE Sr. " BF Sr. would roll over in his grave".!!

BF Sr, was a no bullshit guy, and this bullshit. So yes, I agree, he would not be happy. But when BF Sr, was alive, it was 100% pure racing, and now its 100% pure business.
If BF Sr. was alive, Waltrip, and the entire team, plus all of Front Row, yes including Roger Penske, would all be picking BF Sr. size 12 out of their asses.

Not entirely sure how they justified Gordon for the chase. I understand tossing Truex, and installing Newman. But it is a big stretch to suggest that Gordon would have driven himself into the top 10 and made the chase without a win if Bowyer hadn't pull his BS. Gordon was in the top 10 of the chase at one point, but he wasn't even close when Bowyer pulled that shit.

The big benefactor here isn't Newman, its Gordon.

I guess they figured the average nascar fan would have a hard time understanding why the guys that finished 11 and 13 made the chase, but Gordon in 12 didn't. Hey, they are the ones that wrote the rules that way. They should stick by them.

yeah, then why isnpt he wearing a HB hat???

Anybody remember the mystery purple shit in the intake manifold after qualifying at Daytona the first year of MWR?? The crew chief is STILL BANNISHED from Nascar. I guess the indefinite suspension lasted longer than he planned.

MW is not above cheating. His notorious bother even admits to having a NOS bottle strapped to his leg in more than one or two races. It runs in the family.

Any body remember DE Jr spinning out so he could come in and get a tire change and spring adjustment. He was even over heard "dad said sometimes you have to make your own luck." DE Sr cheat, NO WAY!

He never meant to crash anybody out, just rattle their cage a little. :speechless-smiley-0
Never was a big fan, but after this deal, I had zero admiration for the guy. I didn't shed a single tear after the Daytona wreck. He knew what he was doing and he paid dearly for it.
About a year after THEE wreck, I had enough of all the wallowing, and had tee shirts made with a number 3 laying on its back and flowers sticking up from the center of the 3, and under it it said GET THE FUCK OVER IT! I sold 100 of those shirts in one weekend.

I think it is BS that Gordon is in. Yes he was ahead of Lagono (sp) at the time but you do not know he would have made it by the end of the race. I think everything should have stayed with their original penalties except Boyer should have lost the 50 points after the chase points were set.

Well the 48 was clearly the best car last night, but a late caution and a terrible restart by Jimmy was all she wrote. Kyle doesn't seem to have the speed, he's a top 5 car, but not a winning car right now. The race at the end between the 2 and 5 was really good and clean though. I just wish there would have been one more caution so the 48 would have at least had one more chance to race the 2.:thumbsdown The 5 would have dropped back on only 2 tires.

Of course the "wildcard" race is next weekend, where the 20,48,18 just wanna get out of there with a top 10.

At this point the strategy really changes for the 20 and 48. Main goal is stay in the race, and beat each other. All they are doing at this point is racing each other and stay in the top 10. Gaining bonus points for leading, pole, and most laps is big. Winning is meaningless, its all about position compared to the other guy. Neither could care less if the 24, 18, or 29 win, so long as they are in the top 10. It won't do those 3 any good to win every race left if the 20 and 48 are the top 5. The 20 and 48 are racing each other and trying to stay up front.

Bump, Talledega this weekend. Time to put some distance between the 48 and I mean frontward not behind it. ;)

This actually one of those common misconceptions. He does do very well at restrictor plate races. It one of the things that pop was able to teach him early. And although I was not a huge Dale Sr fan, he was the king of the restrictor plate races, and he hated them. Seems odd. But Jr learned a ton from him about these tracks.

Jr actually has a better record at Bristol which is the total opposite of Talladega. Even more so if you count his Nation Wide years. Hard to believe, but I think its due to consistency.

Sooooo, aside from who you would like to win, who do you think will win. There can be a difference. I would like to see Jr win it because the guy is way over due, and he is damn good there, and I would like to see Jimmie win and move up in the points.

But my gut says it will be somebody unexpected, and not in the chase. Just a hunch.

Bob, why is Talladega so wreck prone? Is it because they can't break away due to the restrictor plates and run bunched up?

I have never been to Talladega, but I have been to Daytona a couple times. Its the speeds and the proximity of the cars. You look at the train most of the race, and all 43 cars are in 2 rows virtually bumper to bumper, IF THEY AREN'T ACTUALLY PUSHING!!
At Daytona, when they go by on the front straight, its one huge chunk of sound. There is no individual engine. Just one big one. Lap after lap. When they are out of sight, you can talk to the person next to you in a normal voice, because they are all together on the back straight a 1/2 miles away, and it will some time before you see a car again. Its not Fontana, Texas or Las Vegas where they get all spread out.
When it happens, its almost always a aero deal. Somebody got upset by air and its on. If you have ever driven something large like a enclose trailer, motorhome, or even a van near a semi, you will sometimes feel the vacuum pull you towards the semi. Same thing happens at those tracks and sometimes the guy loses it. Or the ass end gets light from air packed under it by a car that makes a run at him or is too close behind in turn. Right on him is OK, but a run up can disrupt the car. Its what started the crash that Dale Sr died in. Rusty Wallace got a run on the old man, he tried to block Rusty to protect Jr and Michael Waltrips lead(he owned both cars, even though he drove for Childress) and the ass got lose when Rusty's car packed air up under Sr's ass end.
Once there is a oooopsie, there simply is no where to hide because they are all so close. It just like dominos.
Sometimes its spotter error and the driver thinks he is clear, and sometimes the driver screws up. But its almost never something mechanical or a cut tire. It doesn't take much of a bump to start it.
Yes they are bunched up partially due to the restrictor, and partially because it is faster. Lose the pack and you head straight back. Lose the car behind you and you are looking for another car to hook up with. The Train is faster than any one car, so they stay bunched up to stay in with the group. But also, they really aren't running flat out the whole time. They are testing different cars to see who they run the best with. They deliberately go to the rear to see how many laps it takes to make it to the front, so when the time comes to make a move they know when to start the move. They are "experimenting" the entire race so they know what they are going to do on the last few laps.
Track position in that race at 15-20 laps from the end is nothing. Its not about position up till then, its about strategy and a plan. Then they execute it when the time comes. The race is like a basketball game. The whole thing could be decided in 10 laps. Running 475 miles only earns you the right to be up front when its time.

I didn't word that correctly Bob, what I meant to say is that I think he's the only cup contender starting in the first 10 cars today bc of rain shortened qualifying.

Like I said, that place is nuts. 6 of the top 10 aren't in the chase. Look at some of the names in the top 10. At that's AFTER Dillion crashed out who was in the top 5. You got 3 guys in the top 10 that never led a lap, plus David Ragan with 1 lap. Dale Jr led more laps than the entire top 10 COMBINED!
Only at Talladega!!

I'll be at NHRA Vegas this weekend. Got the app to keep an eye on NASCAR though and be checking here for updates. JJ better watch what he eats before the race, did you hear about the virus Gibbs racing is serving to Hendricks drivers? They won't be able to make more than 2 laps in a row without going to the garage.:D
