So what's going to happen to the 525 and newly released 565? I can't imagine that they would build 3 different motors all within 45 horsepower of each other.

There is a thread here on it in the manufacturers section with specs. According to the boys at Merc this is a bad ass package.

I can't wait to see what technology is going to be around in 10 years, especially in regards to engines and drives. Is Merc going to have a factory turbine by then......

Our mercury rep. was talking about that with us on Tuesday and he said mercury has no plans to end the 525. He did not go into any details on the 565.

The 520 is a DTS motor whe the 525 is not.

Mercury Racing has thought it was leaving some $$$ on the table because of the significant retail price gap between the 8.2L HO and the Merc Racing 525EFI. The 520 is supposed to cut about $10,000 off the price of a 525EFI and be about the same horsepower. Since it comes out of the "Racing" department, it doesn't have to have catalytic converters like the 8.2 HO to be EPA and CARB compliant. The 520 also has cast iron exhaust manifolds and risers instead of the very costly CMI stainless headers.
