I wanted to take a moment of your time to show this video of a merc 500 hp cylinder head..

this head came off a 200 hr motor....it was about to hurt a lot of the engine parts,,

here why......

how many of you know the purpose of leaded gas??

those of you that know the answer, know..... those that don't....are gonna find out.

lead in gas was used to cushion valves and valve seats.. the older motors had softer seats
and if you run unleaded in those motors the valves pounded the seats out and sucked the valves..

so.... when they took the lead out, newer motors ,middle 70's and newer have way harder valve seats
but.... the motors started turning lower rpms,, pre 70's cars ran down the freeway at 3000 plus rpms...

newer car at 1800 rpms....

so you say, "how does that effect my boat motor"

well, guess what, boat motors are car motors,,, sure they have some different better parts...but...

boat motors are more prone to running with old gas,,you know,.. "this gas is only a year old, should be ok right?"

next, boat motors run at extreme rpms, for long periods of time...

how many of you can run across the lake at 1800 rpms.... or even 3000...

heres where LUCAS comes in...LUCAS has an additive that actually cushions valves, acts as a lead replacement..

it also neutralizes poor quality fuel....

what lucas say's

ok,now we know what will do for you and your boat....but it doesn't stop there...

how many here have a newer motorhome???? if you do then read on ...

the onan generators take just about a month or so of bad gas to plug the idle and start jets,

and guess what, voids warranty,.. if your gen. doesn't start, most likely bad gas..
you take it to onan, plugged carbs not covered,,,

next... motor home engines, like boats, set,..and are called on for extreme duty,..

again,.." I know the gas has been in there for a year, but I'll just take it easy''

it more like,.. the gas is junk,it's gonna play hell with this engine, valve train gonna get an ass whoop'n

so, there you have it....

put some lucas in

Good info. I am getting ready to rebuild a 76 350 and put it in my 65 c-10 I am restoring. I usually run sta-bil in my desert toys and motor home. Do you think Lucas is a good product and should I run it in the truck?

Depends on how much you build the motor. I was told by a carb guy in Upland that does ALOT of high performance stuff not to use Sta bil in hi perf builds because it lowers octane numbers.

I agree here, lucas is the only way to go..that and fresh fuel..

You would have seen it last Saturday at the Springs breakfast run if the weather had not gone to shit. I can't post pics on here from my phone. I'll try later from home.

Not going to put Sta Bil in the truck. The only reason i put it in the motor home is so that it gets into the generator. I will use the Lucas in the truck.

Oh and it will be a mild build. I am restoring this truck with my son. He is 16 and when he goes to college I am going to give it to him. He doesn't know that part yet.

For generators and stuff that might sit for a while. Use this in the gas that will sit.

When you put fresh gas in use upper cylinder lube.

Both products have a completely different purpose and use. And can be used together as well based on application.

Ok I have a question for you guys. My TCM800 will run just fine on 91, so they say. I run 100LL. Have been for some time now. For me its cheap insurance. Since its LL, is there any benefit in running Lucas? if so, why? I think I'm around 280-300hrs on this thing and its still running like a top. I'm honestly afraid to change anything now.

heres what I know.... the lucas cushions the valve seats like lead...being a dragracer,... i'd pull the heads on your motor and see whats really going on...

on bad lifter will ruin your day......300 hrs on a blower motor??? have the valve covers been off

I haven't seen any benefit to treating the fuel when using av or race gas.

So whats you're saying is, since its running like a top. Tear it apart and see whats wrong? lol. I'm not touching it until it breaks :D

the idea is to see what little part will window the block and ruin everything...

the rockers and lifters on that motor gotta be just about done...

See, you're assuming I want to save that little 509 block. What if I really want a 540 block and a 4L blower?? If I save the 509 I'd probably go back with it. But if she lets loose, what better reason to buy a 540? I don't think like a normal person lol :D

Lol, got you again. If I was Player rich, I'd yank that little 509 while it was still running, toss it to the curb, and slap in a 540 4L blower motor :D
