View Full Version : What is your boats cruising speed???

GRADS

I see a lot of ads that list a top speed and cruising speed for their boats...What actually is a "cruising speed"???

If my boat does 65 m.p.h. at WOT that is my "cruising speed" 9 out of 10 times.

The flip side of that is if I'm cruising for chicks my "cruise speed" is 5 m.p.h.

SO WTF is a cruise speed?

It's an ambiguously posted number, just short of WOT that could never possibly be verified with an actual GPS. :D

this should clear things up. LOL.

cruis·ing speed - Noun

A speed for a particular vehicle, ship, or aircraft, usually below maximum, that is comfortable and economical.

So what you're saying is we need a new term for uneconomical cruising speed?

If you are cruising for chicks, then your wife might be interested to know the answer to this question too.

That reminds me, time go launch the boat.

I say 3500 rpms is cruising for a boat... but it shoud be where you get the most vacume regardless of speed..

I like to cruise at about 4,000 RPM in my little 2 stroke outboard. That gives me about 52-53MPH on the GPS with a top speed of ~80-82.......not too bad for a big ol' heavy boat :D

it does cruise at that speed...we haven't opened it up wide open...boost is turned down and we are getting "comfy" with the speeds.....actually, Shannon is really comfy at the 90 mph, she tells me it' like running 70...so I sneak it up a bit more to see how she likes it...

Perfect. I don't like posting top speeds. Too many insurance lurkers.

That's funny because I tried to pull a friend of my kid on a wake board and I couldn't cruise slow enough for him. Either too fast or plowing. Not that my boat is fast but couldn't maintain the speed that they need for wake boarding.

I've been in an F29, probably very similar to yours, and I have a pretty good idea how fast it goes. Pretty sure the adjusters do too. ;)

Actually post Labor Day is some of the best boating at LOTO. Although some of the on water bars start closing for the season, most are still open and the traffic is WAY down from the summer months allowing many miles of WOT running on the lake! Top speed runs are the norm!

Thank you. When I saw it up for sale I honestly said to myself, ain't gonna happen. Too many things had to fall in place for the deal to work. That and Bruce was sooooo attached to it we had to call in a mobile surgeon to detach it. I think he approves of how we've taken care of it and the upgrades we've done. He's a great guy for sure. Its a pretty good cruiser :D

We cruise all day at 40-70...but the boat can easily do 80+ all day long without breaking a sweat.....I'm sure it can do more....but 70mph is my spousal limit....anything more than that and she takes a 2x4 to me....LOL....

Boating at LOTO it's better to have something heavy or you'll be at the chiropractor every Monday morning, actually it's much smoother down here in the Gulf, who would have thought.
