Recent pic from Bako last season with our ski motor in it.
31222

From about 2008 when I first came back to drag boats in the 8.0 class... blew that motor up later that weekend. First motor I'd blown up in almost 20 years of racing and the first of a couple that season. Rough year!!
31223

Our circle boat and Bandit's Bristol in the background. Andy in the seat, the Woodster between the boats and his girlfriend on the deck... great day at the deltas!! The Bristol is like a 1958 or so, ran something like 90 MPH at Bako in 1959... very cool boat.

Another pic that's been around. Very cool if you like fast NA flats...
31229

Before I'd ever had a ride in a flatbottom, this was our ski boat. 19' Eliminator Sprint. This was usually built as a jet, but I guess they did 1 v-drive. Was slow, handled like crap but a great ski boat. We skied almost every weekend with it for a couple years. Then I got a ride in a Hondo true flat, 30 MPH faster for the same HP and I was hooked, Couldn't sell this boat fast enough and bought the Kurtis above. Went to a race to spectate in 1982 and was ruined for life:shock:

30522 Your rt Chris. 1984. That's when we'show up @ Crazy Horse campground with at least 6 blown injected flats. And drive them to the Nautical Inn for lunch. No noise BS. No big boat BS. No "Rollbar Boats" BS. Great times. Fast boat back then. I was 25 when I had this.

We picked the Rambunctious after seeing early Gene Snow funny car pics (LONG before the revelations :smackhead about his personal life were known). This boat was the first "Rambunctious". Yea I've run 519 since I started racing. My wife suggested the number when we first started racing. Like a dumbass, I asked her what the significance of that number was. She immediately started clouding up and I knew I stepped in it hard.... took a second until I realized our wedding anniversary is May 19th... What's worse is I started racing the same year we got married; 1984... doh!!! Been 30 years of her riding shotgun with me :)

Hello all, new to this forum but not new to dragboats. My dad raced flats from the late 60's to the 80's here in the mid west and then I ran the Hondo GT pictured above through the 90's. Sold the boat in 2000 and never thought I'd see it again, it sat in a barn for 13 years collecting dust till the guy who bought it from me called and asked if I wanted it back. She's going through a partial restoration to start her new life as a lake rod / part time bracket racer for fun. - Tim

Thanks SS, we are from Toledo Ohio and through the years have raced in the NDBA (Eastern Division), ADBA (when it was based here in Ohio), and SLDBA (St. Louis Drag Boat Association). In the pic above we were running an injected 468 Chevy that went a best of 9.29 @ 117, this time around it's getting a 525 pump gas Ford ( yea I know, a Ford?) so that it's easier to run at the lake and will hopefully be capable of 10's at the strip. I will definitely post a build thread, here's one pic of the floors while grinding all of the old glass out - really crappy job!

I grew up there and was always at the races. Mostly I did the circle boat races, but before American Aggregate finished the lake so they could race there the only races were down on the river and were usually drag races. I was at most of the region 6 hydroplane races growing up.

Newbie question, what hull is this ? Looking at all the circle boat pics I've noticed some slight differences in shape. Some (like this one) have an angle at the cap line while most are rounded.

It's a "little Biesemeyer". Boat Builder Julian Pettingill acquired the Biesemeyer name around 1970. His first effort at a competition minded flatbottom was what we refer to ass the "long Deck" flatbottom. See exhibit A.

A.
http://www.v-drivevideo.net/pictures/albums/userpics/DSC09563.JPG

Next Came the "ski deck" flatbottom which had a wider cockpit and a raised cap rail. See Exhibit B.

B.
https://scontent-a-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/t1.0-9/300907_2514061294685_1018737876_n.jpg

Exhibit C is the traditional race boat that Julian Called the "Race Deck". These are the most popular as well as most produced. Built from from 75-79. The side deck is a little rounded compared to the long deck boat and the cap isn't as sharp either.

C.
http://www.v-drivevideo.net/pictures/albums/userpics/DSC06757.JPG

Lastly was the "Little boat" or "Lil Biesemeyer". These were a little narrow in the transom and had the cap edges.

When Julian sold the Lil Biesemeyer molds, the new manufacturer coined a new name "Bezer". It's amazing how many people don't realize a bezer is an actual boat and not just an abbreviated name for Biesemeyer.

Eventually a guy back east splashed the Bezer and added a t deck calling them Temptations.

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb39/Roadroamer1/DSC00498-Copy_zps4c4f948e.jpg (http://s208.photobucket.com/user/Roadroamer1/media/DSC00498-Copy_zps4c4f948e.jpg.html)

The race deck boat was copied first by G.A.S. (Goettel, Anderson, Steel). These boats became the Revenge hulls and they added a front to back deck rib as well as a ledge to the top of the dash.

http://www.v-drivevideo.net/pictures/albums/userpics/DSCF0947.JPG

D'Cucci boats then copied the Revenge and made the deck a "t" or cut-a-way deck along the way.
http://www.v-drivevideo.net/pictures/albums/2/K-11.jpg

There are other splashes but I'll stop here.

Thank you for the history lesson. I had an idea it might be the Bezer style hull, but wasn't sure.

Curious, are there any differences between a race deck Biesemeyer and the Daytona ? I've looked at my Daytona compared to a race deck and cant find any noticeable difference but I didn't pull out a tape measure.

Bob Long (Sundown Marine) built the Daytona's (using cheap labor) from Julian's original race deck molds (minus the 3rd piece). Bob got the molds from Bill Moore who got them from Julian. Almost all Daytona circle boats I know of have suffered from some sort of floor delamination.

BJM is Bill Moore's initials.

Thank you again for the explanation. I've heard rumors/stories about the Daytonas, some said they came from real Biesemeyer molds, some said its a splash. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've heard and been warned the same thing about the floors. I checked the floors on mine from underneath and its still solid and original. But that's just because its never been in the water. Stringers are a different story. I fully believe the "cheap labor" comment, the deck on mine is so wavy its sad. Must have been a reject out of the molds. Probably why it sat around all these years and never got fully rigged.

BJM is Bill Moore's initials.

k-211 had a big part under the motor that was all delamed, a stringer that was coming up, gunnels that looked like potato chips and a bad bulk head, but its all better now

Doing the same for the old SK51. It had some delam problems, lay-up problems and bubbles that went all the way down to the gelcoat.

That was Jim Buxton's boat I used to ski race and observe in that boat back in the mid 90's. That is Aaron Fluent (absolute speed & marine) sitting on the deck waiting to go race at Elsinore

Help.

Could someone please post a nice sized high res pic of the two.....seasoned veterans.... going balls out in the shovel nose hydro?

The pilot has an epic 'stash trying to rip off his face and the passenger is hovering but not overly concerned.

Any back story on that pic would be cool too. :thumb:

Awesome pic that I fat fingered into the voids of space, sad day. Almost as good as Kendra....almost.

Thanks
